Democrats Still Not Aware They Actually Won The Election

Last November, Democrats took back the White House and the Congress with a huge mandate from the American people. Ever since then, Democrats in Congress have been acting as if they actually lost the election instead.

Their latest act of spinelessness came when the Senate voted 83-7 to deny ACORN any federal funds. Apparently, Democrats have never met a right wing smear campaign they didn't like.

The Senate's move means that ACORN, the most effective organization for helping low income people avoid foreclosures, will not be able to receive grants for counseling low-income people on how to get mortgages and for fair housing education and outreach. That would be like the Census Bureau refusing to work with ACORN to count how many low income and minority Americans live in America. Which is what the wimpy Census Bureau actually did do last week, when they said they won't work with ACORN on the census.

Who cares about minority representation in this country anyway? Apparently not Republicans and right wing pundits. Because their obsession with ACORN stems from the simple fact that the minority communities ACORN works with tend to vote Democratic. So what better way to keep down voter registration in those areas than by constantly harassing the people trying to register them? Yes there were a few instances of workers writing fake names on petitions. (Although I suppose it's possible for your name to really be Donald Duck. But not likely.) And those workers were promptly fired. As were the workers who were duped by a conservative activist filmmaker in the recent entrapment scheme caught on tape.

But what really makes this standup comedian's hair stand up, is the way the Democrats have meekly given in to almost every right wing smear. When Van Jones was unfairly attacked and forced to resign, no one from the White House said a thing. Couldn't someone have just said, "Hey, Van Jones is the foremost authority on green jobs. He didn't say or do anything to disqualify him for that job." But they just let him go.

Then there was the communications director for the NEA who lost his job for making a conference call. When a guy in charge of communications can't make a phone call, you would think someone might have the courage to say, "Hey, what's wrong with that?" Instead, they hung up on him too.

Republicans, on the other hand, stand by their man. Congressman Wilson(the "you lie" guy)has been assured that his party will support him. They've even made him a cult hero. Governor Sanford mysteriously disappears, resurfaces with a mistress in Argentina, and guess what? He's still Governor.

This standup comedian will always stand up for the right of every American to stand up for their beliefs. It's time for Democrats to stand up and catch us if we fall. If they do that, they might actually realize they won the last election.

Today the Democrats agreed to surgically remove their genitals.

I will be very interested if and when the truth comes out, who conceived the "sting" on ACORN. My guess is it was Beck who hired young people from his church and supplied the undercover cameras. This fact finding mission would be thrown out in any court in this land. I just heard on C-Span a resolution to stop funding of ACORN because they are conspiring to bring underage girls here from other countries for sex trade. What?

Have you ever walked into a room and then found you can't remember why you are there? That's what's happened to the Democrats, they can't remember why they came to Capitol Hill

Those who work as if they have just failed at what they are doing...

or acknowledge that one moment of their lack of detail to their work...

or a party-like spend-it-all-while-we-are-here attitude...

are who we are used to...

they are not who we MUST have leading us.

Good for the Democrats!

if i just moved here from another nation i would be pretty certain that the republicans had won the past several elections. i don't ever recall a polical party having such a large majority but being controlled and manipulated by the minority.. i always believed that the majority party set the agenda. wow, i've got a lot to learn....

Go ahead with something most Americans don't want.
It would be a mistake to think a 3% election victory margin was a mandate for socialism.
More people voted against Bush than for Obama.

elected democrats in the house are quite similar to most americans today. incredibly easy to frighten. most people acknowledge that germans are highly intelligent people, yet they were manipulated and tricked into supporting a mad man. what i'm trying to say is if an educated and intelligent people can be so easily fooled and frightened, how difficult can it be to scare todays americans? i despise the fox station but one has to give them credit for knowing their base. there well aware that americans are lazy and would almost never challenge the outrageous lies they tell. there are literally millions who never turn the station believing that fox news and the good book are one and the same. i guess if the majority of born agains believe jonah lived inside a great fish, i shouldn't be surprised they watch and believe tall tales put out by fox and their ilk...

I decided a while ago to stop backing down or acting defensive because of my political views. I have found, in every case actually, that when I stand up for my views, and get right back in some wingnut's face, they back right down. Every single time. You gotta start getting mad, kids. These tactics are the tactics of bullies, and bullies are cowards.

PS I thought a political comedian was a Congressman - or, in the case of Barbara Boxer, Madam Senator

Democrats didn't win, Republicans lost it. Smart voters were simply sick of GWB and overspending Republicans.

But Dum-dum Democrats think voters want every supercalifragelistcexpialidocious program the Democrats dream up.

"Democrats didn't win, Republicans lost it"

Yeah, there's no darkness, only the absence of light... It doesn't matter what you think about WHY the Democrats won and the GOP lost, but the fact remains the Democrats won, and pretty resoundingly at that.

"But Dum-dum Democrats think voters want every supercalifragelistcexpialidocious program the Democrats dream up."

So W can claim a mandate by winning with 50.7% of the vote, but the Democrats didn't get the same mandate from the voters even though Obama won with 52.9% of the vote (with the largest voter turnout in 40 years mind you). Gotcha. Lol, the contortions you all go through to create the most illogical conclusions blows my mind day after day.

Still waiting for the day when "Democratic leader" and "has a spine" can be used together in an affirmative sentence. Its been a long wait and it looks like its still going to be a while.

It's time for Democrats to realize that bipartisanism isn't working. Being nice just attracts more bullying. And if they want to get anything done, they have to just go ahead and do it and not worry about stepping on Republican toes.

Yes, the Repubs are going to holler. Repubs are going to lie. Repubs are going to say you don't listen to them. But this is all happening no matter how you try to please them.

So, darn it, plug your ears to hollering Republicans and forge ahead with the big plans that were supposed to turn this country around.

Seriously, only the Democrats can defeat the Democrats this year. Don't let that happen.

Bipartisanship is a sad, sick joke that many Dems, including Obama, just don't get.

These Democrats suck. What's the point of voting for the them if their going to be no different than your typical Republican? At least the Republicans stab you in front of the back instead of behind.

No. Republicans tell you to "WATCH OUT THERE IS A (Insert latest bogey man here) BEHIND YOU!"

Then stab you in the back as you look away...

Have to agree with the article author.
The Democrats have been out of power for so long they forgot how to govern and they, unlike former Speaker Newt, were not ever really run by someone who cracked a whip on them. This has been pretty much true from day one.

Elections are won one state at a time, one congressional district at a time, one-on-many or one-on-one between individual candidates running on their own platforms. I cannot one time that candidate Obama advocated for a single payer system or even a public option in public. The 2008 campaign's main issues were the economy and foreign policy.

On foreign policy issues the differences were that McCain would have kept us in Iraq for 100 years and Iran for 1000 years. Whereas Obama would get us out as soon as practicable.

On the economy McCain was a bumbling idiot who admitted to having no understanding of how the economy works and professed that the fundamentals of the economy were strong days before Lehman collapsed. Obama was a sharp quick learning candidate with a good handle on the issues, a great economic team, and endorsements from the likes of Warren Buffet.

Obama advocated for a single-payer system in 2003. On June 30, 2003, he told the AFL-CIO of Illinois: "I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care, cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody." From the website for Physicians for a National Health Program http://tinyurl.com/m3ze63

Obama later amended this position to what he stated, often, on the campaign trail: "If you're starting from scratch, then a single-payer system would probably make sense. But we've got all these legacy systems in place, and managing the transition, as well as adjusting the culture to a different system, would be difficult to pull off. So we may need a system that's not so disruptive that people feel like suddenly what they've known for most of their lives is thrown by the wayside."
