The Dream Comes Home for Chicago's Blackhawks, And All of Us

What's Your Reaction:

Growing up in the Midwest, a lot of kids play hockey. Some of them are good, some of them are really good, and some of them end up being die hard fans for life.

Tonight the scrappiest, fastest, and best-built team of players from all over the world of hockey pulled together through one of the most exciting Stanley Cup Finals Series in recent memory, to bring home the dream that every kid who ever played the game has had. The dream, talked about by pros and amateurs alike, is to bring home "The Cup."

Here's to the entire Chicago Blackhawks team and organization for making a dream come true for all of us little boys who played hockey on homemade rinks, on ponds, or in our back yards with too much water from the garden hose at 10 above zero on Christmas break. We all are transported back to those days when we first laced up and sharpened up, to pick up a stick and hit a little black piece of rubber around until mom called us in for dinner.

Thank you, Men, for taking all of us back to being kids again. Tonight you showed the world what the game is all about. As adults we don't often get these opportunities to be kids again like you did tonight. To share just a little piece of it, and remind us what it is like...is absolutely one of the best gifts you could possibly give to your fans.

Three Cheers and a Beer (or Nine) to the 2010 Stanley Cup Champions, The Chicago Blackhawks. May you always play like you're a kid taking that last winning run at the homemade goal before mom calls you in for dinner!

Thanks Scott. I grew up, and still live in Chicago. As a kid in the late sixties, we had a Skil saw factory in our neighborhood that made the Skil saw brand. Every winter when it got cold enough, the the floor foreman of this factory would empty an inside water tank on to an empty lot behind the place. The neighborhood kids had an instant hockey rink. Every couple of days the foreman would resurface the ice for us, and we would keep it clear of snow. It was big enough for about three games to be going at once, and we always set aside a space for the little guys to have their own game. Of course, everyone loved the Blackhawks, with stars like Hull, Mikita< Pappin, Esposito, and others. I have been a life long hockey and Hawks fan, and the last few months have made me think often of the guys I grew up with playing hockey behind the factory so many years ago! To the Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks, our Cup has come in!

Those are some cool memories 47th. I would love to hear more. If you have friends who have great 'growing up with hockey' stories, I'd love to see 'em!
