Are you part of the 48% who voted remain in the EU referendum? Or maybe you're part of the 52% who voted for Hilary Clinton in the recent US election? Fancy following the 383,000 who jetted off for greener pastures in 2015?

While the recent election of Trump and Brexit will probably be your biggest motivations for looking abroad, there are many more positive reasons why emigration may be just what you need.

Bigger houses for instance, or the chance to live a longer, less polluted life. Or even just simply better weather.

Leaving home is always going to be a major decision that requires a lot of research so, to give you an idea of the type of destinations available, we've compiled a list of the six most exciting emigration destinations open to skilled Brits and Americans.

United Arab Emirates

Probably not one of the first countries that comes to mind when you think emigration. But the desert kingdom is quickly becoming one of the hottest (pun intended) destinations for expats. With one of the fastest growing economies in the world the demand for experienced workers across all sectors is creating a land of Middle Eastern opportunities. Plus, if the world's oil addiction is anything to go by, you have at least another 20 years before this oil oasis dries up.

Sweden

While Sweden may not be an English speaking nation and has a reputation for being a tad on the expensive side, it does offer a unique "soft emigration" option for British expats. With only a 2 hour and 21 minute flight separating it from the UK, Sweden is the perfect destination for those who want to emigrate but don't fancy putting too many miles between them and what they used to call home. And if you're American? Abba, floating ocean sauna

Canada

Stretching from the US in the south right up into the Arctic circle in the north, Canada's vast expanse of wilderness has always been a hit with both British and American expats. Taking in over 12,000 Brits in 2013 and a further 3 million Americans over the last 25 years, Canadians have a relatively relaxed approach to immigration and see the benefits of welcoming skilled and talented people from all around the world. As an emigration destination you can't ask for much better either. Canadians live longer than the British and Americans, report higher levels of life satisfaction and enjoy it all in much larger homes.

Singapore

As one of the world's largest commerce, transport and finance hubs, Singapore offers a whole host of working opportunities that many people are starting taking advantage of. While taking the full leap into the Asian unknown may scare off most expats, Singapore has a long history with the UK and English is commonly spoken across the island nation. As for day-to-day life, Singapore is a bustling metropolis that has one of the highest standards of living in the world and offers an emigration destination that can act as a gateway to other Asian countries. Perfect for the more adventurous expat.

Australia

Australia is one of the best countries in the world. Ok so I may be a little biased after spending a fab year sampling their beaches, but the proof is in the statistics. Australians not only get paid better, but they have more affordable housing and live longer. Their internet is cheaper too! What more can you ask for?

New Zealand

If you're not a fan of the desert-like heat of Australia and you fancy something a little more in line with home, then New Zealand may be the destination for you. With summer highs averaging around 25C it's certainly not going to all grey clouds either. Plus, if you fancy living in a country which scores one of the highest life satisfaction ratings in the world then you're in for a treat.
