Fighting Depression and Suicide With Love

Not long ago, my brother and I were interviewed for a video on suicide prevention. The video shares the story of my suicide attempt, and tells how my brother's love and support helped bring me back. The response to this video has been remarkable and overwhelming.

As someone who openly struggles with depression, I'm frequently confronted by the parents, siblings, and friends of individuals who are having suicidal thoughts and feelings.

"What can we do?" they ask. "How can we help them?"

In an article published on FamilyShare.com, I wrote my answer to those questions:

Empathy. Reaching out and loving those who are in pain -- suffering alongside those who suffer -- that's what matters. That is the most helpful thing that anyone can do for another person.
