Cry of the Bushbots

When I read the comments on the Huffington Post I’m always amazed at the ones by the Bushbots. It isn’t so much their vitriol that I find interesting, although its level is quite extraordinary (you can almost see the bulging veins in their foreheads and the flecks of spittle on their lips), but that they’re on the site at all. Despite the loathing they feel for the ideas expounded by many of the bloggers, they return again and again to partake of the liberal orgy. Like a religious leader with a predilection for hookers, they know they should stop, but somehow can’t quite stay away.

They are at their full-throated Bushbot best defending the President and his policies, big brothers on the schoolyard standing up for a little brother they perceive as being bullied, never mind that prior to the “bullying” the little guy tore down the jungle gym, whacked another kid over the head with a see-saw, and set fire to the school.

“He’s a conservative!” they bleat, as if he wasn’t bankrupting the country.

“He’s a strong leader,” they shriek, since he led us into a war against a country that didn’t attack us, his soaring rhetoric built on a foundation of deceit.

And finally, “He’s not one of you liberal assholes!” they screech, as if the epic incompetence of the Bush Administration is somehow preferable to the eight years of peace and prosperity that preceded it.

To hear the Bushbots in full cry is like listening to someone defend communism. Guys, interesting theory, but it doesn’t work in the real world. Time to get over it.
