Sarah Palin Resigning as Alaska's Governor (VIDEO)

***SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO OF PALIN'S RESIGNATION SPEECH AND CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES***

UPDATE 8:02 PM EST

Sarah Palin's speech this morning rocked Alaskans and people around the country. Palin's predictability is her unpredictability. I'm seeing Alaskan flags on cars, in front of houses, some citizens expressing their own Independence Day. Other citizens are angry and playing the blame game; the bloggers, the MSM, Alaskan legislators, her family under attack, etc.

For weeks the rumors of a criminal investigation against the governor have been brewing. They are rumors, but are swirling fresh again with Palin's resignation. I'm holding my breath for the other "Naughty Monkey" to drop. Another theory for the resignation is that the Palins would have to disclose the book deal as well as other financial details as governor.

Sources say, the third in line for the governorship, Corrections Commissioner, Joe Schmidt, has declined to become Lieutenant Governor. There is no official word of who will become take Sean Parnell's position as he ascends to the governorship.

Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC is now claiming Palin has told some close to her that she is through with politics.

I have said Sarah Palin's political ambition combined with her intellect is like putting a jet engine on a golf cart; lots of horse power and no steering capabilities. Today she proved it.

Alaskans pride ourselves on our frontier spirit, but this isn't what we meant. There is much work ahead to put the drama behind us and carry on to the betterment of our state.

That's just how "mavericky" we are.

UPDATE 4:05 PM EST

Rumors of an "iceberg scandal" have been circulating.

Resignation is certainly out of character for Sarah Palin. Senator Mark Begich had a meeting with Sarah Palin two days ago with no mention of her leaving office. Palin's press secretary, David Murrow had posted on his Facebook page Wednesday, "David Murrow is considering life's ironies." He was hired less than a month ago. Yesterday he wrote, "There's gonna be some fireworks this weekend!"

Palin's father, Chuck Heath, told Fox News that he thought her resignation was due to the negativity from the media. According to Heath, the governor was unable to be effective while she was constantly having to defend herself against ethics complaints and the media.

You betcha!

ORIGINAL POST:

After Sarah Palin's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week she has announced she will be stepping down in a few weeks. In a press conference call this morning, Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin announced she will not run for re-election and is stepping down as governor.

She had a brief statement. She took no questions.

Her commissioners and Lt. Governor were with her at her home. Palin did not relinquish the reins of the state to the Lt. Governor while running for vice president.

Lt. Governor Sean Parnell will step in as governor at the end of the month. He was defeated by Congressman Don Young in the Republican primary last year.

An earlier post suggested "we get up off our butts and do something"- Spoken sans the self indulgent professorial tone that is so prevalent- talk is good ,but it is also extremely cheap and is really devalued when it only emanates from a keyboard. Too often on blogs I believe posters become more concerned about appearing witty , intellectual or advancing a personal insight- forgetting that words, exclusive of action, are woefully bereft in effecting meaningful change.
In my opinion, this contributors words have a greater truth and capacity to effect change then all the rest that rely on a cadence of semantics or frenzied Google searches etal.
Some would say his words are lacking in eloquence-but the fact is eloquence and about a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee now days, and his call to "get up off our butts' has far greater eloquence as it speaks to a plain truth and necessity..
Continue to discuss-complain and share opinions-then lets all get up off our butts for a change rather than leave it to another.Lobbyists-don't like them? Do something about it-it's your country and your government.

Today's polls say independents are abandoning the flagship-is the sleeping giant rousing? If so why? I think much of the bashing by the Dems is beginning to appear as more "payback" than thoughtful-a bully who has the majority upper hand. And that my friends has only some much currency. Transparency promised is good in government, but seething overt malice and hatred is not.
I had opined that this type of display could have a backlash-and I think it is beginning to show. What there is about Palin is obvious-she can not govern-.seems it would be better to stick to fact rather than the vitriol and rumor form both sides of the aisle which is always the case. This type of thing plus the cacophony of ineptitude emanating from the palace will not bode well by the time 2012 rolls around.
If you would call for "justice" re Palin do so in a reasoned manner and don't refrain from doing likewise from your elected officials-who you in fact have placed yourself and your country on the line by electing. You will find it lends a greater credibility to your opinions.
Discount the polls if you like-and I mention this Palin thing only as a possible contributor to the slide that is beginning-it is far more than that and we all know it.
Ignore Palin as you would any minor irritant.

Preface: Not an R or D or Palin fan--but I think I'm beginning to understand this-all the broken promises and adoption of Bush policies by the present admin has created a vague feeling of unrest and betrayal in the faithful. And rather than confront that and demand the "change' bill of goods the dreamers were sold this near hysterical obsession with the dimbulb is a form of escape from an undeniable truth that is emerging as an all to be painful reality. The only one even close to speaking a truth at times is loose lips Biden-and he gets spanked every time he does. Hold Palin accountable if she is-but hold your national leaders accountable as well. Gotta love "campaign rhetoric" as described by the "one" when referencing his words re Hillary.

Do you believe in Karma? or do you just like spending time in court and paying for all those costs.
It will really add up.

She'll be PERFECT on FOX "NEWS".

That was quite a... speech she gave. Left me wondering on many levels - e.g. why'd she feel obliged to state: "I have given my reasons candidly and truthfully". - ?! Shouldn't that be a given? I know, not with Sarah Palin. But it really strikes me as a strange thing to say - possibly another dissemblance. Also when she said: "The "hell yeah" sealed it - and someday I'll talk about the details of that." Sounds like a plug - Buy my book for more precious Palin family anecdotes! This woman makes my skin crawl. About time somebody filed ethics charges on that per diem $$ she's been taking. Anyone with good morals and ethics would not feel entitled to that $$. It seems sleazy, and moneygrubbing, like so much of her behavior.

Ann Coulter commented that Palin's become 'too big' for Alaska. She's a star now. Can raise money for Republican politicans & flying around the country rallying the conservative base.

But she's also like a country bumpkin who's seen the big city, and won't go back to the farm again.

Ann Coulter-does anybody listen to her?

It's like she has the emotional maturity of a 12 year old bully, acted out on an 'adult stage'. best thing to do with this one is to ignore her. ah, but alas, the media doesn't realize we really, really want to do just that.

Ha ha ha ... Moore on Keith's show saying that phrase that may catch on:

"Palin ABORTED her term."

What a great double entendre. Palin must be steaming enough to power the lights in the bunker she is hiding out in.

I watched Shannyn on Countdown and I liked what she said. She's not about to "bow down" to "the maverick one". Kick her butt, Shannyn!
08:34 PM on 07/06/2009
So Sarah Palin wants to sue you?

Fine, get yourself a dream team and crush her in court. $200 of mine says we can build you a million-dollar defense fund in one month. Takers anyone?
10:32 PM on 07/06/2009
Shannyn puts a paypal on HER website and I'm in for 1% of my monthly income. Just so the money goes to her, she can do whatever she wants with it.

I'm game, anything for Shannyn and the 1st Amendment

Sarah Palin has become a fitting metaphor for the GOP. The party has turned into an open circus show.
