There are two little pairs of feet that I brought into this world and I love them dearly. I have kissed those feet, washed them, tickled them and watched them grow.

Those little feet run fast, kick hard and climb high. They make me nervous. They make me crazy. They make me busy. But those little feet make me feel lucky.

Lucky that I get to be a part of their journey. That I get to experience all the wonders of the world through them again. The way the grass feels between toes... Or the shock of cold water.

Those little feet have a lot of potential. It is hard to stand back and let those little feet falter and fail. Sometimes, it is hard to even let those feet touch the ground.

But Mommy's arms aren't always the best place. Little feet need to run, play, fall and get dirty. They need to know that they can accomplish great feats all on their own.

So, while I love the little feet in my life, I will be careful not to bind them too tightly. Just don't expect me to ever walk away completely...

I had the privilege of creating and carrying those feet. I saw those tiny black and white feet at 20 weeks and I felt the strong kicks and big stretches more than was comfortable.

Back then, I knew that those little feet were special, but the reality has been more than I could have imagined.

The energy, the messes, the needs... all more than I ever pictured; but it doesn't matter... because the love I have for those little feet is more than I imagined as well.

And when those little feet grow bigger than mine and walk out of my house, I will still love them more than they could know.

Little feet have a funny way of doing that to you... No matter how stinky they may be...
