Senate Approves Amended DTV Delay Bill: MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer January 30, 2009

As quickly as the House defeated the DTV delay bill, the Senate approved an amended bill calling for the delay. An aid for Senator Jay Rockefeller has confirmed that the Senate passed a bill to delay the transition until June 12. The House is expected to get the bill Tuesday and vote on Wednesday, with only a majority needed to pass it.

Amazon reported that sales increased 18% in the fourth quarter. Despite economic problems, profits jumped 9%. Analysts credit the web retailer with providing free shipping, great deals and a wide variety of products as the reason for Amazon's profitability as many retail chains are going bankrupt.

Dell is preparing to debut its first smart phone. The computer manufacturer has developed phones based around both Google's Android operating system and Window's Mobile. The smart phones could debut as early as next month.

Former MTV exec Christina Norman will join Oprah & Discovery's OWN Network as CEO. Most recently, Norman was the President of MTV. Norman is expected to oversee all business and creative issues at the start-up cable network.
