Perez Hilton: "My New Motto Is To Be Sassy Not Nasty"

Posted: 12/09/11 10:44 AM ET

Perez Hilton is one of the most well-known gossip and pop culture bloggers in the world. He stopped by the What's Trending studio to talk about his motto, his work ethic and his goals for 2012.

Perez began blogging in 2004 and started by telling us about his place in the pantheon of influential and notable bloggers. "I'm happy to part of a movement and lucky to have been one of the first," he remarked. He continued to say that he feels a great sense of accomplishment for enduring and growing, given the rate at which most things online burn out.

From there Hilton took us through a day in the life of a loved and hated blogger. Turns out he works very hard at what he does. During an average day, he told us he works between 16 and 17 hours. Surprisingly, he revealed that he doesn't watch any TV, but he does subscribe to, "tons of YouTube channels."

Although Perez said he has committed to being a kinder and gentler Perez, he still believes in being critical. "My new motto is to be sassy not nasty," he said. And, as to how he deals with criticism of his work, he explained that he doesn't care whether or not people "like" him, but he does care if they think he's making the world a worse place.

According to Perez, building community is all about finding a niche. "Find something that either nobody else is doing or you're doing differently than everybody else because that will help you get noticed amongst the clutter of gillions of other websites out there. It's nothing new. It's like that song from Gypsy the musical -- "You gotta have a gimmick!'"

I stopped reading Perez (I was an avid reader and frequent commenter) about two years ago when some singer went to a treatment facility for anxiety disorder- which I also have. Perez told her to "get over it" and just "go breathe in a paper bag." It was ignorant and hurtful, and I haven't been back to the site since.

"he does care if they think he's making the world a worse place." Then, mission accomplished.

Always found it odd that he spoke out about bullies, when he himself is a bully. He needs to rethink his life and review the pain he's caused. Is he sooooo perfect that he feels comfortable judging others?

He's always been mean, petty and cruel.

He decided to change this a few years ago and his blog is now just an outlet for paid publicists releases and readership has plummeted.

I've never been a fan of his but I give him credit for turning from nasty to sassy. He use to be a bully but then he said the "It Gets Better" program made him re-think things.
Too bad there are many who now bully him for not being a bully anymore.
Good for you Perez.
