In keeping with my belief that we need to support Second Avenue businesses through this time of transition until the subway project is complete, I am dedicating a certain amount of my submissions to such local businesses.
This time, I have selected Burgerfi located at 1571 Second Avenue. Now, I am not particularly burger-bound but this is not about me. Many people enjoy a burger now and again and, for those who may be inclined, this is a nice option. Burgerfi's philosophy is that their food goes, "from farm to tray," meaning it is fresh and never frozen. Additionally, they state that their meat is both, "antibiotic and hormone free." So, if you are a carnivore at heart, maybe try to go as healthy as possible and stay clear of injected meats. This establishment does offer a veggie burger option, which I have sampled and it was delicious! I was told that the regular hamburger is even more delectable.
In the last several years, I have seen that very location change hands multiple times. While I am not normally a huge fan of chain restaurants, it is heartbreaking to see these establishments continue to fail. Maybe this will break the cycle for that location -- with the help of our local Upper East Side friends!
Again, I am not attempting to promote this restaurant as a vegan or even a diet-sensitive safe haven. I am simply saying, if you are a meat-lover, this may be a good choice for you. At least you know the food is fresh and free of injections. Most importantly, if you're going to have a burger, do it on Second Avenue and help save a new business. While you're there, shop around. Stop in at Pinkberry or 16 Handles for some frozen yogurt if you're worried about the calories of a shake. Maybe go across the street to the Comic Strip Live! We want to preserve our community and save our local businesses so come by the UES and stay for a while. We would love to have you!
