6 Reasons Why You Can't Lose Weight

Commented Nov 4, 2011 at 14:19:27 in Healthy Living

“I'd also like to add the probable correlation to what our pregnant mothers eat. Just like a pregnant drug user will bear a child addicted to drugs, what she eats while pregnant can have the same effect. If you're on a diet high in junk food, sodas, etc., then your child will most likely be born to crave those those same foods. If you eat a diet high in natural, whole foods, fruits, veggies your kids will eat like that too. It has to start in the womb.”

“He may have been retired at this point, but I'm sure the abuse began long before that, in which case my point stands. I'm not making any judgement, rational or otherwise. I just know it's easy to look at the way things seem from the outside, but we'll never know how it was between them.”

“Agreed that I, too, don't know all the facts, however I believe the points you make are easier said than done. Cops stick together, and for her to make allegations against him, attempt to leave, etc. probably would've made things worse.”

“artistry, the guy was retired. when you leave the police department you are considered dead, theres no more favortism Try pretending he wasnt a retired cop and make a more rational judgment on this case”

“All that may be true and I do know abused women will rationalize all sorts of ways why they stay with the abuser, but she should have done something instead of taking it.
Oh well. I hope she can get on with her life and she is not permanently damaged by the ordeal.”

“I completely agree. So much time & money spent meeting & talking about it, when we have studies that show that nutrition & exercise can actually REVERSE type 2 diabetes. Most (if not all) of our so-called chronic illness & diseases are nutrition & lifestyle related. People don't want to own up to their poor choices, so they look for pills, shots & quick fixes to make them feel better and 'manage' these issues. so the pharmaceutical companies continue to get rich, and our healthcare costs are ridiculous.”

“What happened to earning the contract the old fashioned way? By providing the best quality work that you can provide at the lowest price you can afford? i.e. EARN it.

Seems pretty simple to me.”

“You might be surprised. Thirty years ago for a short time I did estimating work for a roofing contractor. A man from the local city government came in one day and said he needed a bid one a roof replacement. He also said he had to get two other bids.
I did the estimate and gave it to the contractor. He told me to make up two others with higher prices than the one I had just done and gave me two different company names to put on the estimates. I refused to do it, so he did it himself. He even faxed all three of them from the same fax machine. I quit that day.”

Kids And Exercise: Where's the Line?

Kids And Exercise: Where's the Line?

Commented Aug 25, 2011 at 11:28:13 in Healthy Living

“It is sad that the kids these days don't go outside to play anymore - running around, being active - but that's the reality of the coming generations. My opinion is that it seems that most of us are getting our activity via the gym, having regular 'workouts', (and sometimes going outside to run, skate, bike or hike) then why not help our kids learn early? Good health is good health, and if people are taught when they are very young about how to live that lifestyle then it can only help them become healthy adults.”

aerofanbig on Aug 25, 2011 at 14:41:56

“Interesting thoughts! You are totally right though, schools are NOT going to increase gym or recess time. Too much energy is spent on prepping for the SAT as early as possible. Kids are being disciplined to get ready for lives behind computers. Even 1st graders are getting HOURS of homework every night. If they are to complete their studies, where is the time to play sports, run around, play with other kids? Conversely, the current trend of over scheduling and over parenting is probably working against the kids. They are over stimulated with SO many activities, some of which might be active type things, that they are getting burnt out and turned off from them. Kids don't know all that exercise is good for them, they just know they are beat, tired and fed up with soccer on monday, baseball on wed, wrestling on friday, games all day saturday, and HOURS of homework every single night, coupled with a lack of sleep because parents are trying to force too much down their throats. This isn't going to stop, so....maybe a "kids" gym isn't a bad idea?”

“I love this post! Water is life. I do acknowledge that in some communities the available water is lacking in key minerals, but overall that is NO excuse not to drink plain water! We justify how 'bad' the water is, and drink more and more man-made drinks. No wonder our health is at risk. Water does a body good...hands down. Drink up!”

Boomers Will Be Pumping Billions Into Anti-Aging Industry

Commented Aug 22, 2011 at 13:41:06 in Business

“I think the key is maintaining vitality. As we age, our mind is conflicted with our bodies not being as young as they once were. The article touched on good diet & excercise, but didn't really delve into that. We all want to feel as good as we did when we were younger. Whole foods diet, consistent moderate to vigorous excercise, including weight training, plenty of sleep & water, is truly the only way to do it. It gives you confidence, the ability to deal with everyday stress & issues, enhances literally every part of your life.

Don't look for quick fixes. Even if you are sick, and broken you can still turn it around. It's never too late to start! Your body has an amazing way to heal itself, given the proper tools.”

Why Washington Urgently Needs to Break America's Negative Feedback Loop

Commented Aug 22, 2011 at 11:11:23 in Politics

“I agree with this, for the most part. I'm not politically savvy, however with my limited viewpoint, it seems that all of the bickering, going back & forth, deliberately sabatoging everything the president tries to do, is the real issue. If we cannot have intelligent, productive conversations in our government, essentially agreeing to disagree, yet still doing what's best for America, then we are getting exactly what we deserve. Everything I hear & read about the GOP versus Obama, makes me think of silly school days drama. We are adults; the fate of our country is in their hands, and all they can do is point fingers & reject any and all suggestions/ideas for getting this economy back on track. They should be ashamed of themselves!!!”

“This article is very timely. I just left a family reunion where there were many generations around...aging & the elderly DO NOT HAVE TO BE FRAIL. It saddens me that people simply accept this fate; they take the drugs prescribed without question, & do not realize that they do indeed have control over their bodies. In my early 40's, and have struggled with weight/diet for the last 10 years, but I WILL NOT GIVE UP! What I saw this weekend only reinforced my quest for good health. I want to help others see that it's not inevitable to age like that. Diet & exercise are truly the fountain of youth!”

“Don't give up. All it really comes down to is persistence. It takes a few months to around 2 yrs depending on how hard you train. After that it becomes easy to maintain your gains/losses. The great thing about getting into strength training is being able to meet tons of inspirational people. I met a guy the other day who is in his 70's and is still able to flat bench press 315lbs.”
