An Open Letter to Congress

“Brooke, I know that last year we almost had a government shutdown because Congress didn't work together, then I know on Dec 31 at the last hours they averted the 'fiscal cliff' only to give themselves a few more months and now that third deadline is here. I do know the President suggested the sequester, and I do know that unfortunately in all these months Congressional leaders from both sides have failed to compromise putting us into a position that the Commandant of the Marine Corps today said will impact Marines survivability.”

“Brian, I would hope any citizen of their country has pride, I do not call that arrogance. If I didn't believe the United States of America was the greatest Nation on Earth I would be raising my children somewhere else.”

“Sir or Ma'am, there was not enough room to go into length regarding the specifics of what would be included in the $85.4 billion in cuts, but this article goes into length about that: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/02/20/the-sequester-absolutely-everything-you-could-possibly-need-to-know-in-one-faq/

“Why are you attacking the military? You are missing the basis for what I spoke about. March 1 the sequester will happen, last week Congress took a week vacation. If you had a job to do that would impact an entire country and your colleagues were far from an agreement, would you take a vacation?”

“I do not "depend" on my husband's paycheck, I make my own nor did I mention pay as a concern in the above. Pay is not affected by the sequester. And we do have a choice, the service member could choose to not re-enlist after 4 years, that is a whole family's choice. But they and their families stay committed for the long hall. My above letter was not regarding pay, pay will not be affected, but the things you said will be are my concern- training, proper equipment, lifesaving equipment”

BobandCathy Villa on Feb 25, 2013 at 13:44:00

“Yet you never once mention life saving equipment, training or anything like that. All you mentioned was what the family did. Also with the we never take time for ourselves? So no leave in 11 years?”

An Open Letter to Congress

“Yes sir, he did volunteer to serve and he would volunteer to serve if you stripped every benefit, dollar of his pay, and the proper gear he needs to do his job. He did not put our family in harms way, we live the most prideful life in the entire country- we are a Marine Corps family. My children wake up with reverence to that beautiful American flag because they understand the sacrifice that goes into it being flown above this land. We elect Congressional leaders to do a job, yes a tough one, but they are fully compensate far above where our military is compensated. This is the 3rd time our country has been brought to the wire because all sides fail to come to an agreement; that is unsat and unacceptable.”

“F&F - For the letter, for your response, for your familes (and all other's) service. I fan you so that you know that there are many of us out here, who care, who stand with you, who understand WHY you and your family chose to serve, and so that you know I thank you for it, everyday you are in my thoughts and prayers. I promise there are many like me who will never forget.....If I may, though not a Marine, Semper Fi.”

“Bianca, I pray for your husband and your family as I do for all our military personnel in harm's way. And this old woman appreciates your sacrifices and understands them even without being in the military myself.

Your Letter to Congress speaks for me too! And for tens of millions of Americans without a voice.”

“It is sad that this even had to be a fight, our military families give so much to serve and they shouldn't have additional challenges in getting the proper healthcare. This is proof that advocacy matters and people can make change, at the grass roots level, one action at a time.”
