Teacher Rumored To Be Hardcore Porn Actress, Removed From Classroom

Commented Jan 16, 2013 at 12:28:06 in Education

“This is outrageous! In his confirmation hearings it was revealed that Clarence Thomas had a strong taste for porn, yet he was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice. It's okay then for a man to watch porn and still be on the highest court in the land, but for a woman to be in porn it's not okay for her to be an ordinary school teacher???? Double standard!!! As usual there is no real justice in this country, just male dominated B.S. and hypocrisy!”

“There is an unmentioned downside to antimatter eventually becoming affordable. It could be used to make tiny but enormously powerful weapons of mass destruction.”
The Party of Denial

The Party of Denial

Commented Jun 2, 2014 at 16:15:03 in Politics

“No factual, scientific explanations will ever have any influence on the denialist community. For them it's not about science or nature or reality, it's about some kind of odd, paranoid, delusional personality disorder that sees bizarre, implausible, conspiracies under every rock and stone. They think everything is about liberals and Al Gore and Obama, but in fact, of course, global warming is a purely scientific issue. Nature doesn't care about liberals or conservatives or what they think about anything. She will continue along with her inexorable physical laws, in this case the one where CO2 absorbs energy in the infrared spectrum and warms the planet. Denialists are utterly clueless when it comes to science. They're all living in some sort of echo chamber where all they ever hear is their own myths and misinformation rehashed over and over endlessly, and their only means of processing it all is their hopelessly primitive, rudimentary misunderstanding of even the most basic scientific concepts. The denialist is fueled by unbridled hubris, remarkable ignorance, a mind incapable of critical thinking. And sadly, you just can't fix these strange and stubborn creatures. We just have to plod forward without them and try to save the planet despite them. If you try to debate them you will find it the most annoying experience you can imagine. They're not just wrong, they have no idea what they're talking about whatsoever.”

“As a Ph.D. scientist, myself, I feel sorry for Dr. Cusamano; his commentary has no audience. No factual, scientific explanations will ever have any influence on the denialist community. “Agreed. I must say, however, that I've encountered many Deniers with Engineering and even Science PhD.s (although not PhDs in Physics or Atmospheric Science).

My conclusion is slightly different - it may not be a matter of ignorance or lack of intelligence --rather, a manifestation of confirmation bias, the well known evolutionary tendency of humans to reject evidence that challenges their worldview. Some are better than others at overcoming this, some cannot or will not.

Another example is the rejection, particularly in Europe, of Genetically modified Foods, in the face of repeated scientific findings that they are not harmful. The science advisor to the EU, Ann Glover, has publicly bemoaned political decisions in the EU to restrict availability, and the resulting denial of cheaper food to the world's starving poor.

Yes there are some that don't understand science, but the tougher problem is the otherwise intelligent that refuse to accept. My question is how to reach them?”

“Thanks Bill, it is somewhat comforting to hear some sane comments once in a while. I have been telling conservative people that if their house was on fire and Al Gore yelled ''Fire'', they probably would not get out. That about sums it up. Capt.”

Climate Change: The Case for Heat

Commented Feb 5, 2013 at 23:45:20 in Green

“Terawatts are a unit of power, not energy. This writer doesn't even know the basics! How can we trust him? Energy on this scale could be expressed in Terawatt hours. You can't have an annual useage of 15 terawatts. I doesn't make any sense in terms of the physics of energy and power. Power is a rate of energy useage or creation. This article clearly was not reviewed by an actual engineer or scientist to correct these amateurish errors. It spoils the whole article. The point of the article is correct though. The amount of heat generated by humans is only a tiny fraction of the energy delivered to earth by the sun, so it's not a problem. Global warming is not caused by human generated heat, but by human generated greenhouse gases trapping the energy that we get from the sun.”

DonCski on Feb 6, 2013 at 07:59:59

“Agree. Take these two statements from the article and tell me how they don't contradict each other....

" You can't create energy and you can't destroy it; you can only convert it from one form to another."

" We burn some natural gas to create electricity to light a light bulb."

I thought that you can't create energy?”

Thurgood Marshall, Elena Kagan, and Our Constitution Today

Commented May 11, 2010 at 16:36:21 in Politics

“Kagan is just another wimp-out move by Obama. I'm so tired of him and his endless surrendering to the right. He's no liberal--not even close. I feel totally deceived and betrayed by Obama and his phony campaign promises. I hope Kagan gets defeated. She's a poor choice for the progressive movement. I wish so much that I had not voted for Obama. Wish I had voted for Ralph Nader. The whole Dem party, including Obama, is just another bunch of corporate pawns. We are ruled by proxy from corporations boardrooms and the leaders of the military-industrial complex. We are the sheeple of America.”

graciesgra on May 11, 2010 at 17:06:49

“Voting for Nadar might have satisfied your conscience, but what if many people had done that and McCain had been elected as a result? Is that what you would have wanted to have happened? I can't say that I am totally pleased by everything that President Obama has done, but when I think of the alternative, I am so grateful that we have elected him, and I do think that he has done many good things.”

“They left out scientist. It requires by far the most education and longest hours for the lowest pay. Plus, for the rest of your life, you're surrounded by nerds who think it's actually a good career. You spend about 10 years in college and grad school, then often 5 or more years of post-doc work, then if you're really, really lucky, maybe a tenure track position in academia--about 7 years to get tenure after that, working 60 to 80 hours per week. And the pay is a joke! More of a nightmare than an actual career.”
