The Unsingable

Commented Oct 4, 2011 at 22:07:26 in Arts

“Thank you Suzanne for being so open and clear about your vocal journey. I remember my first Tolomeo, and your first Cesare at Palais Garnier. I finally have admitted that I am a lyric countertenor, who has found a niche in modern opera, where I don't have to torture myself with coloratura lying around in my lower passaggio. I sing coloratura, but I have to work 5 times as hard as lighter countertenor voices. This is why some of my best successes were in low mezzo parts, such as Arsamenes in Xerxes, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Baba the Turk in Rake's Progress. When I did Baba twice to much success, I think a lot of mezzos were thinking "stop mezzo role poaching!" I just loved your post and I am sending you a huge hug. Thank you for sharing! Mwah!”
