Virgin Mary: Anglicans & Catholics Agree

Roman Catholic and Anglican leaders announced Monday that after years of discussions, they have come to an understanding concerning the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and that doctrine concerning her should no longer be a point of contention between the churches.

The joint document they issued, "Mary: Grace and Hope in Christ," which has not yet been accepted by Rome or Canterbury, states that the Catholic teachings on the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary into heaven are consistent with Anglican interpretations of the Bible.
