“Joe Walsh? LOL... SMH... That's the last guy who should be saying anything about racism. I've been to one of his town hall meetings. There are plenty of people there who said things that are out right racist. I've also seen some of his FB followers and they, too, are racist. He's seen it first hand, turned a blind eye, and allowed it to continue.
To say that racism is a non issue in this country by a bunch of white guys is like a bunch Catholic Priests talking about women's reproductive rights. Neither group has no clue what they are talking about.”
“A lot more than there should be. There was one in Quincy, IL who ended up abusing and murdering the young woman who was also with child. They tortured her. I can't understand cruelty. I really can't.”
“I thought comingling client funds with operating funds was illegal. Am I incorrect in that assumption? Why aren't they being held accountable for that? Those funds should never have been used in that way.”

“Yeah, but it's OKAY if a democrat is the crook. Didn't you get the e-mail from the White House?”

“Apparently as long as you don't have a "system" to prevent it, its fine.
You just put them all into the same account and don't keep any records to show which is which. Then how could you possibly know, and if you don't know how could that possibly be wrong.”

“It is for you and me. Laws don't apply to billionaires; that's one of the perks.”
“I'm on the opposite end of the sex spectrum. This definitely has piqued my curiosity. This would explain a couple of my friends. I wonder if they have come across this yet. To know that there is an entire community out there that "gets it", would be a wonderful thing.”
“Just an observation, but a lot of folks who are fans of Obama are protecting him like crazy. But the same actions under Bush they were howling like crazy.
The reverse is true for those who turned a blind eye when Bush and Cheney did illegal wiretapping and torture, but howl now that Obama is pushing the envelope regarding civil liberties.
Neither position is correct. You can't be for one and not for the other when they are both wrong. There is no difference between the Republicans and the Democrats when it come to this. I find that scary. I don't feel safer because of what they are doing. Quite the opposite.”
“No where in that answer does it address the question. It was reminiscent of the interview Palin had with Couric. SMH... Aya...
It's not about looks. If you are performing at that level, she should be prepared for questions like that. That's a simple question that's been around for decades. Not sure why someone would think it wouldn't be asked.”
“It's not the station owners. It is definitely higher up the food chain. Station owners have a set rate. The margin doesn't change.
There were talks about potentially increasing gas tax to pay for infrastructure improvements in MI. I think that is the reason why prices went up. Higher taxes infringe on company profits. It's a tactic they have used plenty of times in the past in other states.”
“I had a good view of them until the Planned Parenthood issue. Then I took a closer look at their finances. They are imploding. Non-profits should have less than 50% of their funds going towards admin and the rest going directly to services and grants. They are at 64%. Now that they are not raising money in several major markets that percentage will increase.
Why would anyone want to support an organization where only a third of the funds helps the cause?

“25% is the number, not 50%. Give your money to a charity that their only goal is to help the people that they serve, not enrich the founder. To be fair I believe charities have to pay good people in order to retain the best but most folks who go into charity work do so because they really care.”
royalef on Jun 12, 2013 at 11:56:08
“Uhm... you know you MADE UP that 64% statistic right? For 2012, Komen spent 82% of their fundraising on fighting cancer. They are still a highly rated charity that keeps fundraising efficient and administration costs low. This is DESPITE her outrageous salary. Sadly, commentors are now quoting your made up statistic as fact.”

“I used to sign up (since retired) during the Combined Federal Campaign, and booklet gave info about each organization as well as listing how much of their costs went to Admin.
From what I remember, 25% or under to admin costs was considered satisfactory.
So, for Koman to be up to 64% sounds outrageous.
They blew it, and they continue to blow it....
PLENTY of other very worthwhile nonprofits to donate to...”
“It starts with censorship and moves on from there. I love Judy Blume her book was influential in my upbringing. They are having the same discussion about The Diary of Anne Frank. It's ridiculous. If parents want to continue their denial that their kids aren't thinking about their sexuality then they are going to have some big issues popping up in their households. By banning these books they are saying that it is not normal to think about your sexuality at that age. I vehemently disagree.”
“And you should get all the help you can. Is there anything that would help you deal better with the situation that you wish was available that isn't available now?
I admire your courage and strength. I have family members with mental health issues as well and it is not an easy thing. Each state is different in what services they have available. Illinois has been cutting mental health consistently for the last 30 years. I can list several things I would love to see in place for individuals with serious mental health issues.”
“It sounds like the mom was doing the IEPs and trying to be inclusive with the son. However, the diagnosis was incorrect. I don't think this was a mild case of autism. Obviously not in light of what has happened. But even if this had not happened his behavior is not consistent with mild autism. Although I can see how they could make the error. Unfortunately in order to receive services and for insurance to pay claims you have to assign a label. And maybe mom wanted a less stigmatizing label like Asperger's rather than a more apt and a more serious label. It's not an easy situation. There is so much we don't know about mental illness and there is so much more we don't know about how drugs interact with our bodies. (Thanks Big Pharma)
What I don't want to see is another pointless conversation about gun control. It doesn't work. What we need to focus our efforts on is better mental health which means we need to invest in our crumbling mental health systems. Obviously it hasn't been a priority. 40 years ago it was, but it has slowly been defunded. That needs to be reversed.”

“I do agree with you about the mom. It sounds like she was having difficultly believing that her son was so disturbed. That must be a difficult thing for a parent to deal with. You are also right that we DESPERATELY need to pump money back into mental health in a more productive way than what they did 40 years ago. I mean the institutinalised patients were often neglected and grossly abused for profit.”
