“Your distinction adds fresh insight to the gun right/gun control discussion - once the responsibility box is checked, gun owners must have the psychological fortitude to deal with the consequences such as this...Yes, yes, defend your family (or yourself) from imminent danger. I get that. What I do not get is the tragic consequences like this one.”
“Exactly - it was a "connected-ness" issue, not necessarily gender. The women have these informal huddles amongst themselves, so when the catastrophe or crisis happens, there is already an established bond of being communication. They reach across the aisle, even with their very different political viewpoints to throw baby showers (remember Kirsten G) and I am certain they ask about each others children, parents (elder care big topic now), etc. It is too bad partisanship has stopped the men from doing the same thing. Hopefully, this will help them at least be civil to each other!
This reminds me somewhat of Rosa P. Ms. Rosa was not 'better' at sitting than a man. She just KNEW when enough was enough.
So thank you Senate Ladies, for starting the process and thank you all senators for getting this done "when the House was tied in a knot" (spoken by Sen. Schumer last night immediately after Senate bill passage).”
“So true - never, I say never, again will I allow disillusionment and doubt to keep me from the polls during midterm election! This is how they got in back in 2010.... never again can we allow this to happen!”
“That was good work by the Huffpost Reporter who asked the grown-up questions of Texas Rep. Blake Farenthold. On so many levels the politician statements from my great state have been quite embarrassing! Then my heart just bursts with true Texan pride when I read how Rep. Castro is one of 100 congressmen/women who are sending their salary to programs affected by this Shutdown. By contributing his salary to Fisher House and Battered Women's Shelter, Rep. Castro exhibits statesmanship, class, and humility! These are two organizations that provide essential services to those right here in my backyard!
CORRECTION NEEDED TO PRINT STORY: Julian Castro is the mayor of San Antonio - an excellent one at that! His twin brother, State Rep Joaquín Castro is the actually who should be named in the story - not Julian!”

“HuffPost: But they are asking for changes to sequester. They would like a higher funding level. Farenthold: All right, so where are the conferees from the Senate to talk about that? HuffPost: To talk about what? That reporter seemed not to be able to rememeber what he/she was asking... ”
“This is on a much smaller scale, however, I did see this same vindictive venom from the R's when our country was NOT selected for the 2016 Olympics. I I did not imagine their blind hatred for the prez would go this far -- to shutdown the government. Hot dog! Never thought I would see it again, '95 shutdown was so horrible, it's like they have amnesia!”
“One of the most qualified R's? Absolutely! I think the post-Sandy hug forever tarnished him in the eyes of the R voters. Too bad. When I think of Chris, also brings to mind Linda Lingle, former gov of Hawaii...”

“I have no recollection of Linda Lingle, but I do know that the needed lesson to be learned from the symbolism of that Hug ? Is that regardless of Political party, WE, are one Nation, under Creation, which should be, INDIVISIBLE, by Leaders representing, Liberty and Justice, for All Americans and AMERICA! Rather than being led by a majority of Teapublicans, either ignorantly or knowingly, for Treasonously replacing The United States, with China!”
“This hurts to read...Suicide Prevention has been a heavy topic for a while now in the armed forces. Our unit began to have annual 'stand down' days in '02 for briefings, films, info exchange, the works. So sorry for this troop...
Thank you, HP & Ariana for this Invisible Casualties area.”
“I could not recall her name right away, I know the dress immeaditley - why that is a 'prairie' dress - Laura Ingalls Wilder style! I read all of Laura's novels at least 3xs each in my teens - yes TEENS! I only started watching the shows in the last 4 years or so - thank you Hallmark channel reruns!
Jason Bateman, Todd Bridges also were on the series at one time or another. One of my (and my now 17 yr old) daughter's episode ever was with Johnny and June Cash! Laura and Jane in Dr. Quinn = good tv!”

“I am watching re-runs of "Highway to Heaven" for an hour every night now. Some of the episodes could actually take place today, they are so real to what is happening. The one about our foods and waters being poised by chemicals and other stuff is as important today as it was then.
Some posters boo-=booed some of the old shows, preferring instead Honey-Boo-Boo as being more realistic.”
“Hopefully opening the Beirut bureau is another step towards CNN returning to its newsworthy roots.
When I was a young airman back in the day we actually could have CNN on during the workday to get the latest NEWS. Tele was in the break room and the only time we rolled it out to the work area was to see CNN's live coverage of our air attacks Jan/Feb 1991 (Gulf War I). Solid and unbiased coverage!”
“Yep, my girl has been in private schools her whole life. Not because I'm "against" public schools - but because they are just as you say INADEQUATELY funded, woefully so, and teachers waaayyyy overextended. A sacrifice worth making!”
