Don't coddle criminals. Make incarceration so uncomfortable that they don't want to come back. What is it with you lily-livered liberals? If you want to make it easy and loving for criminals why don't you adopt a few and carry them home with you?”

That couldn't have ANY negative effects on poverty stats, low wages, or be a drain on the system. By the way, here's a you're welcome from Texas for dealing with America's immigration problem for you - You're Welcome.”

“This is hysterical. Every time governor Romney spoke openly, he turned off more of the voters he needed to win by making it perfectly clear he didn't care one bit about our rights, values, or future. And, as far as I can tell, he never effectively communicated his plans to better the lives of most Americans because he didn't have any. All his plans would have only enriched those who can afford tax shelters in the Cayman Islands. I'm sure he won their votes by a large margin.”

“I saw the NBC report and thought it was fair. They did say the policies that were being cancelled were because they didn't meet the new standards.

I'm one of the people who lost my policy. And I have to say my new situation is a mixed bag. My old policy didn't cover much. But it was what I could afford. The policies on my state exchange are almost double what I was paying before. And, while it's great that they have done away with the annual caps and that I can't lose my insurance if I get sick, I'm also forced to buy a policy that covers pregnancy and pediatric care. At 63, I doubt I'll have a need for either. As I say, a mixed bag.”

“I did not know this until I started working with Move To Amend, but Citizens United is just the latest decision to grant corporate personhood. It's been going on since 1886 and affects environmental and financial regulations, zoning laws, worker and product safety, and a whole lot of other things that We the REAL People care about. Until we end this legal fiction that corporations are people, they will keep doing it--with the assistance of any corrupt SCOTUS they can.”

But seriously, we are not. I own 2 corporations and, believe me, they are binders full of paper. They have no opinions, no ability to speak, and no free will. I do because I'm an actual person. “Unfortunately, the Supreme Court keeps overturning campaign finance reform laws at the state and federal level. That's why I work with Move To Amend to promote a constitutional amendment that says corporations are not people and money is not speech. Because even the Supreme Court can't overturn the Constitution. I encourage anybody else who is outraged about this to go to movetoamend.org and find an affiliate near you. Because Congress won't pass it unless we make them.”

“So far, you're absolutely right. However, that's the process for an actual budget. For a continuing resolution like this, the typical next step is then a conference committee to reconcile the House resolution with the Senate's--which they passed in April. However, the House refused to appoint conferees to the committee, despite 19 requests from the Senate. The House then appointed conferees the night before the shutdown and complained because the Senate didn't send any to their hastily called conference because they judged it to be political theater and not a serious attempt to reconcile the two resolutions. Judging from the House response to 6 months of Senate attempts, I'd say the Senate has some justification in seeing it that way.”

“After the 2012 presidential election, I followed a link in a story that said the RNC was looking for feedback on what they could do to change. I filled out the survey and tried to be helpful. It was clear they needed the help. But all that happened was that I wound up on an RNC donor list. So I get emails at least every week and sometimes every day--depending on the media outrage of the day. Rep. Issa's hearings generally generate a lot of fundraising emails.

Still, in the same spirit of helpfulness, I reply to many of the outright whoppers contained in these emails. I've pointed to sources that refute them. I've given them first-hand experiences to the contrary. I've pointed out how offensive many of them are to the voters they need to attract. Again, they don't seem to be listening. They just keep sending me these missives, with the same tired old lies.

Since I'm actually a registered Democrat, I get fundraising emails from them too. Some of them get pretty frantic as well. Mostly they warn that Democrats could lose seats without donations--which could be true. Few seem to contain outright lies. Which, I suppose, explains why I mostly vote for Democrats. Not always. I was a registered Libertarian for 10 years. I've voted for Greens and other candidates in the past. Even for Republicans. But not today's Republicans. I just couldn't.”

“Dear Senator Durbin,
The Baby Boom generation kept Social Security going all these years by paying in massive amounts of money. We did this with the promise that we'd get our money back. If we don't, we're going to be massively pissed. My advice? Find a way to fix it that doesn't involve depriving Baby Boomers of the benefits we've earned. It will be good for the economy, and good for your political career.”
