Ethiopian Coffee Trends for 2011

Ethiopian Coffee Trends for 2011

Commented Jan 21, 2011 at 20:29:34 in Food

“Not all Ethiopian coffee is equal - some great some not so great. And it is true that poverty runs deep in Ethiopia. There are no easy answers, but when a consumer buys a pound of coffee for which a farmer has been adequately compensated, he/she is having a positive impact that will hopefully make it possible for Ethiopian families to realize the dreams they have for their children. Look for Ethiopian coffees roasted by conscious local roasters and you'll probably get a good coffee that will have a positive impact on the community as well.”

“i don't think cheap coffee will ever go away. just like there is still wine in a box, 5 liters for $10, there will continue to be ultra-low price coffee. what is exciting is that there is more differentiation and people are paying for quality.”

“brewing at home is relatively cheap - you get about 16 -20 cups of 12 oz coffee from a pound (depending on ratios). really depends on the cost of the coffee itself, but it would take a $48/pound coffee to equal $3 cup.”
