Sympathy Is Hurting Obama's Readiness To Face Republicans

Commented Jan 29, 2008 at 00:29:54 in Politics

“I'm an Edwards supporter. But you can't really think that the Clintons are being harder on Obama than the Reps. will be. Remember John McCain in the 2000 primary with the Reps whisper campaign about a black love child. That cost him the primary election and he was one of their own. I think Carl Rove is laughing and getting just what he wanted, either Clinton or Obama. You haven't begun to see the blood letting the Reps will do with the Dem nominee. I will simply write in John Edwards because he actually is the progressive that everyone thinks Obama is.”

Obama's Conservative Economists

Commented Jan 26, 2008 at 03:12:51 in Politics

“Dear firecontrolman, I want to point out that due to the continued compromises of "centrist" Democrats the liberal center is now more conservative than Nixon. This is exactly why Obama will not be a good choice for America. If he continues the compromises with the Reps as he has been doing in the Senate the country is going to move right of George Bush. This is not intended as a joke. The Reps. do not compromise. That means Dems only move further away from our core values. Reps win by playing to their core. So should Dems. Edwards 08”

altohone on Jan 26, 2008 at 09:41:53

“Hillary and John Edwards vote for Bush's war and you're accusing Obama of "compromising".

Obama voted against the bankruptcy bill that Hillary and John voted for, but Obama is the one who is "compromised".

Leave the revisionism to the historians.”

Obama's Conservative Economists

Commented Jan 25, 2008 at 23:07:00 in Politics

“Because, you ill informed personage, the mortgage companies, banks and savings and loans are getting bailed out. Do your homework. They are being saved by the Saudis who will now own us along with China. I would rather bail out Joe & Mary down the street than the Bank that screwed them and does business with the Saud family. Also, the next round of foreclosures will be for prime loans. This selfishness and disregard for others is astounding.”

Idytme on Jan 26, 2008 at 02:39:25

“And if you want to be selfish about it, they need to be bailed out so that there aren't a whole bunch of foreclosures in your own neighborhood, lowering the value of your house. And if by any chance you want to sell your house, all the other ones are gonna go first cause they are gonna be real cheap.
Then, with the banks left with defaults and no houses selling...guess who doesn't have cash sitting in the bank?
Have a non federally insured money market fund?
Want to re-think that if all the houses are being foreclosed?
How about your county? Do they have money sitting in funds invested in real estate earning a bit of interest? Did ya hear what happened in Florida?
And your 401K fund that is in some kind of bonds somewhere, you want them holding onto defaulted property?”

America's Next Top President

Commented Jan 25, 2008 at 19:14:02 in Politics

“Dear johnmcd72, I feel the need to point out to you that we have heard plenty of policy talk from Obama. Obama and Clinton are part of the spineless Senate that has compromised with the Reps. on the war funding over and over. I don't hear Obama or Clinton screaming about warrentless wiretapping. Neith of them has rushed back to Washington to defend our rights from the phone companies. They have never filibustered to keep the war funding from going through. If Obama and Hillery are so progressive why are they willing to vote to for the Peru trade deal. Why have they never introduced reform of NAFTA. I just don't see how voters can pretend they haven't been rolling over for Bush. Why haven't either of them demanded the impeachment of Cheney, why aren't they screaming for investigations of voter caging, screaming for the investigation of war profiteering. There actully have been members of the Congress who do speak out, Fiengold, Kucinich, Dodd, Waxman, Boxer. No, Clinton and Obama are silent and their supporters are fabricating excuses for their lack of action while in the Senate. It seems to me that people are voting race and gender because they ignore the real compromises that their candidates have made. Compromises that have led them to compromise our Constitution. Progressive? Not even close.”

Why I Wrote "The Great Awakening"

Commented Jan 23, 2008 at 01:48:45 in Politics

“As a secular humanist I don't need to change my focus to suddenly decide to care about poverty or social justice. They have always been important to me. I see no reason to give praise to a "christian" who has seen the light. These people can just as easily turn on me tomorrow and burn me at the stake all in the name of god. I put the equality, welfare, dignity, and rights of people above a god. Know your history. It has been the free thinkers of this country who have stated real progressive changes including the antislavery movement, suffrage and, oh yeah, the war for our independence. The churches have always followed very slowly and reluctantly behind. You have a right to your religion and I hope it comforts you.”

Only John Edwards Can Beat McCain

Commented Jan 23, 2008 at 00:47:43 in Politics

“OK, let us get this straight. Edwards wanted Kerry to fight the swift boaters. Kerry refused. Edwards wanted Kerry to fight Bush tooth and claw during the 2000 debates. Kerry refused (something about wanting to look statesmen like). Edwards wanted to fight the Ohio election results. Kerry refused. Edwards despised Kerry for losing the election that is why Kerry endorsed Obama. Edwards theme when he was running for the nomination in 2000 was the same as it is today. The middle class is shrinking and the rich are getting rich at their expense. This man doesn't want to roll over for anyone including Clinton or Obama. By the way, Clinton and Obama, they are part of the spineless do nothing Senate that has been giving Bush everything he has been asking for including funding the war over and over again.”

Clitoral Economics

Commented Jan 23, 2008 at 00:19:56 in Business

“Barbara, I fall at your feet in adoration. You are correct we need to help the poor because they need it the most. John Edwards states that "we need to help the poor because it is the moral thing to do". I also think we need to help the poor because if we do not they will be us. Edwards has made this the core of his campaine. He is the only candidate who does not want to give real dollar hand outs to jump start the economy. Jared Bernstein of the "Economic Policy Institute" stated today that dollar hand outs are the least effective way to stimulate the economy and help people in immediate need. He stated that we need to increase unemployment insurance, extend the time it can be collected, give money to the states who can get it to the needy fastest and use it to fund programs and to put people to work to build infrastructure. Wow! That is exactly what Edwards said during the debate on Monday. I hope everyone will take note that not only is Edwards heart in the right place but he has both a practical and intellectual grasp of how to solve economic problems. Martin Luther King stated that "poverty is the worst form of violence" I believe we can in poverty in America if we want to.”

Hillary Clinton And John Edwards Gang Up On Barack Obama In The South Carolina Debate. Will Thousands Flock To His Support As A Result? Will He Cry?

Commented Jan 22, 2008 at 10:47:36 in Politics

“Edwards won the evening. De Zengotita seems to think Edwards can't fight by himself. What was he doing all those years fighting against corporations? Edwards doesn't need Clinton to speak for the American people. He needs the media to stop their bias reporting and cover his candidacy. Well, at least the Huffington Post is mentioning Edwards. I hope their boycott of Edwards candidacy has ended and we can discuss all the candidate's policies here on the Post.”

“EDWARDS, Blew Them BOTH away.

What a clear headed, thinking and caring individual Edwards has come off as, AGAIN.

Why is the MEDIA wasting their time on the TWO LEAST QUALIFIED Candidates.

Hillary did not deny that Lobbyists would be around her from day 1, and Obama has to KEEP EXPLAINING why he did or said something - that was misconstrued. Give me a break.

John Edwards showed statesman like character and eloquence, and is the only candidate READY to be President.

He is the ONLY CANDIDATE who's MAIN MISSION is to SUPPORT the Middle Class and Less Fortunate -including our ABUSED SOLDIERS in COMBAT and at home.

JOHN EDWARDS the only choice in '08”

Thurber on Jan 22, 2008 at 11:29:24

“Edwards fighting corporations? When was that exactly (besides promising nice platitudes during a campaign)? He's worked for them, and the hedge funds. He's sued health care providers based on junk science. This whole myth of him fighting the corporations while working for healthcare matches his rhetoric but is exactly opposite of his record.”

Accounts of Edwards Electoral Death Are Perhaps Premature

Commented Jan 14, 2008 at 18:44:35 in Politics

Feinstein Censure Killed Without a Vote

Commented Nov 19, 2007 at 13:52:46 in Politics

“Thank you Rick.

I was one of the Californians who wrote to ask for censure of Feinstein. I have been writing letters to the Senator since before the war/occupation. The last time I felt this excited (in a positive way) about being a Dem was the election of Dean to the DNC.

Feinstein has a long record of ignoring the will of Californians no matter what Torres states. I don't believe Feinstein will change because of this but I like the idea that she knows that at least 30,000 of us are watching her very closely.

Please contact Torres and let him know that you do not approve of the suppression of the censure vote.”

Where is the Outrage During the Presidential Debates?

Commented Nov 12, 2007 at 11:24:53 in Politics

“Dear Photofarm, Let me see if I understand you. You think that the Democrats should cut spending (SCHIP) and try to balance the budget. How does one balance a budget by not spending 30 billion on this bill, when the war in Iraq is costing about the same amount weekly? 52 weeks in a year X 30 billion a week = ? That is like fixing a leak in the kitchen faucet at the same time the bath tub water is on full blast and flooding the house.

I don't want the government to cut spending. I want the spending to go to the people for health, education, environment, science, infrastructure, parks, art, and culture (our first export). Even if we funded these things, we would not be spending what we are spending on the war.

We need a third party. I will no longer sell my vote to the lesser of two evils, even if it has the name of Clinton.”

Commented Nov 5, 2007 at 23:22:54 in Politics

“I simply refuse to vote for anyone ever again "just" because they are a Democrat. I want to vote for a "real" progress and not throw my vote away, again! I see no difference between most of the Reps and Dems in either house. The few outstanding members of the Democratic party in congress need to leave it and form a third party of real progressives. They only sully thier good names in the association with "The Democratic Party".”

roneckley16823 on Nov 6, 2007 at 07:18:44

“I couldn't agree with you more Duky. If the party offers me Hillary as my candidate then for the first time I will vote Republican. I am really tired of the same old baggage in the White House. I want change and so far the Democrats are not giving me that. The Clinton and Bush Family only give me more of the same. These leaders are the same people that in the sixties chanted "Power to the People" - what happened to them. What a disappointment. And the voters, they do not seem to even look at the issues. What happened to our Country?”

Querent on Nov 6, 2007 at 02:21:24

“Then get more selective about the candidates you support. There are plenty of progressives out there. Maybe one of them would run in your district if they knew they could count on your support. If not, you can give your support to progressives running in other districts. I don't think you should vote for someone just because they call themselves a Democrat. But normally, if you take opposite of the Repig position on anything, you can't go too far wrong.”

Will Bush Suck the GOP Down the Drain With Him?

Commented Nov 5, 2007 at 22:59:21 in Politics

“I will never vote for Hillary. I can no longer vote for a Democrat just because that is their party name. Hillary is taking money from Bush's ex Harken Oil partner (See last weeks "The Nation"). Look what we Califorian's have in Feinstein. She continues to vote like a Rep.

I cannot blame the Reps. they just are who they are. A rattlesnake is a rattlesnake is a rattlesnake. The Dems. are at fault just like all the good Germans who stood by as Hitler came to power. I blame the Dems. more because they know what is wrong and are being opportunistic.

I believe we need a third party, a Progressive party. If Edwards doesn't get the nomination I hope he will form this party. If Hillary gets the nomination I will cast a write-in vote. I take back everything I ever said about all the Nader voters in 2000. I am just to fed-up with voting for the lesser of two evils.”

Lelu on Nov 6, 2007 at 00:35:13

“I wish our representative government actually worked so that Americans could vote on the issues, but it's not working. I fear even with a third party this could be the case. There needs to be some kind of secure online poll site where people can go and with convenience similar to online banking vote in polls (not officially) for their district's issues and see if it lines up with the representatives' votes or something similar but better and smarter.”
