“Alex I certainly don't want to gloss over any ignorance or lies. But most of the time, the idea that the press is liberal is not correct. Facts are FOX news is not fair & balanced. We have Rupert Murdoch who owns a majority of the newspapers, TV & Radio - he holds dual citizenship. What IS his agenda? When you have 1 person who holds that much power & the ability to slant things the way one wants IS POWER - is it really the American Way?
I keep thinking of the media megalomaniac in the James Bond movie...What is to prevent someone who controls most media outlets from manufacturing news? How many wars & conflicts could they begin, people could they divide and what nations could they lay waste to - just because they could?
News stories should be facts, figures & truth - they should not be played for ratings.”
muziker on Aug 20, 2010 at 15:42:03
“The BBC Internation Report coming out of London is still the most honest, accurate and factual news reporting. Funny how a government controlled organization can be one of the most honest in the world. But of course, the BBC is British and not American where sensationalism and hysteria drives the media (not to mention the ratings and advertising revenue).”
“The only thing strange about his background comes from the birthers, the naysayers & the kooks. He has written several books that lay his background out. His birth certificate issued by the State of HI has been on the net for anyone with brains & good sense to see. He has not refused to answer any questions.
What you have is people who really are ticked off that he won. Never before have we had the access to instant media that we have today. Even when Bush was elected, there was not as much blogging. So someone can say anything - it gets picked up, distorted or not, spun or not and boom it is in everybody's mailbox. If you are fearful. If you are the least bit prejudiced, if you are ready to believe anything - one can pick it up spin it, distort it and send it back out. NO ONE IS HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. In the old days - journalists checked for facts now it is just what sounds good.”

“Very astute observations. Fanned and faved. This explains a lot. Let's hope people start to realize it and not feed into the frenzy of misinformation being spread out there.”
“The Catholics didn't except the Jews; The Baptists didn't except anyone; the Russians were coming; We were all going to be "red"; the Indians were heathen; Women were dumb; blacks had no sould; homosexuals were going to all led us to hell ---- all of these stereotypes are based on fear, hatred & bigotry. The Muslims have existed with us, along side us for awhile now...their fanatics really don't hold much of a candle to Christian fanatics.”
“You know, I am a U U and we don't have any dogma - but I was raised Methodist. I remember when I first heard the song "Imagine" - and I thought that it was sad that someone wouldn't believe in a GOD or a religion. I was very young then - now I see what he was talking about...He was right - it would be nice to think we could all live in peace & that there would be nothing to fight & die for.”
“Yes, but you know st1bern - that Islam believes that JESUS was one of the GREAT Prophets - that just believe that he came BEFORE MOHAMMED. Neither they nor the Jews believe that JESUS was the SON OF GOD but that he was a person after whom to pattern their lives.
Christianity is not too demanding - but some of its' followers who believe that they have the truth & every other religion is false ARE.”
“This isn't about just asking for papers. If they asked for everyone's papers there would be an outcry like you have never heard before as indignant white folks screamed about having to PROVE their legality - but at least it would be non-discriminatory. Targeting only Latinos, or people whose skin is a certain shade IS. I disagree that it would affect those who are Canadian, or Irish or just anyone with an accent. We don't have much problem with Canadian or Irish immigrants anymore - but Hispanics would be fair game.
As far as what the answer is? I don't really know. but I do know that this law IS discriminatory & it is a step in the wrong direction for a country that boasts about How free & democratic they are.”
johnminehan on Apr 26, 2010 at 17:14:10
“Still lots of problems with the Irish illegals. More of them than you think and often bad ties.”
“I am wondering where YOU were luvg-d when Bush & Cheyney had all those secret behind the door closed sessions. When they brought oil company CEOs in to write energy policy? The pharmaceutical companies to write drug policy?
If Sarah Palin will lie about things that don't mean a diddly damn - then she will lie about the big things too. People are really angry about the lies she told in Going Rogue and we know she told lies because people have e-mails to prove that she lied.
What all will you forgive her for?? Could she order the deaths of millions and that would be OK with you - because she SAYS she is not for big government? What she would really be good at is being a dictator - I think there are some openings in other nations...”

“In this case, I guess they don't feel Patty Duke deserved an Oscar for protraying Helen Keller in The Miracle worker. I was quite young when that came out and I can still close my eyes and see her learn water. It made quite an impression on me.
Patty Duke had some issues; but seeing and hearing were not among them and she nailed that performance. That is why they call it acting! Maybe they should reserve judgement until after Opening Night.
They should judge Ms Breslin on the merits of her work - not just condemn her before it ever takes place.”
PlaceboStudman on Oct 29, 2009 at 20:23:45
“*IF* Ms Breslin spends a few months or a year embedded in the disabled community, surrounding herself with deaf and blind people, and saw first hand how they deal with the realities of their life, then MAYBE you might have a point.
But how realistic is that considering the schedule? IMHO, the producers are simply exploiting Ms Breslin's name and face for financial gain, not for real disabled advocacy”
“If Liberman and the ones who are against a public option pass the bill without one -
I propose that we picket Washington and demand that they give up their cushy government run healthcare programs and have to get in line with the rest of us. I for one don't understand why why have to subsidize their health care when we are getting shafted by the insurance companies! They can just get shafted right along with us!
If they want to sleep with the insurance lobbyists and not do what a majority of people in America want - then they can just loose their cushy jobs and the insurance that goes along with it. We still pay insurance for every Senator, Representative and President living, whether they are in office or not! Talk about fringe benefits!”
Kealadi on Oct 28, 2009 at 16:35:53
“Great idea! I believe it is time for We The People to scream so loudly that it will drown out all the voices of the insurance company lobbyists, the wingnuts & the media that supports them. How many more of us have to die before we can get affordable health care? We elected those in congress and trusted they would listen to us. If we are the voters and taxpayers, then it is up to us to fire their arses and vote in some people who will work for our best interests, not those of the super-rich few. Greed has had its way with us in this country far too long! Its time to kick Greed out and let Compassion in for a change! The time for complacency is finished. We are going to have to push just as hard for what we believe in as those who oppose progress and want to keep the status quo. If we have to gather together and picket Washington, so be it.”
NoLipService on Oct 28, 2009 at 16:21:45
“Why are you not upset at them for option out of the crappy health care they want to shove down our throats already?
Where is the outrage over them opting out of this crap right now regardless of a public option. And why a public option do you actually think that will be good health care or are you just hoping it is free?”
twinkerbell on Oct 28, 2009 at 15:28:43
“Why should anybody be surprised by Lieberman? He is one of 2 senators from Connecticut, the home of many of the big insurance companies that gave him more than $700,000 for his last campaign. The anger should be directed at Harry Reid's idea to have a public plan which would allow the states to opt out. The provision to opt out is a fig leaf to give Big Pharma and Big Insurance another bite of the apple to enable them to buy state legislatures (think of Mississippi, South Carolina, Louisiana - with wing nut legislators and governors). When the states opt out, the most vulnerable among us will still not have access to health care. Meanwhile, Obama plays the role of negotiator-in-chief instead of advocate for a Medicare for all public option. Of course he and Hillary Clinton both got millions of dollars from the healthcare industry in 2008. Where's the change to believe in?”
Elle Bach on Oct 28, 2009 at 15:07:19
“Oh, no doubt. If they mess this up, there will be an scream of outrage in this country that will shake the columns of power right off their pedestal.”
“If your wife or your daughter were raped, thrown inside a shipping container and held so she couldn't report the incident and then told they couldn't sue because there was an arbitration clause in her contract - you might think that at least the Company would find some things that were NOT subject to arbitration - you know, things like rape, murder, embezzlement REAL CRIMES. Arbitration was meant to solve some things that would muck up the court system - RAPE should not be one of them. The last I heard, KBR employees were citizens of the USA. If they commit rape, they should be able to be held accountable in a court of law.
To answer your question - the responsibility lies with the person who did the raping; but if the company is going to great lengths to sheild the rapist (and covering it up or trying to sweep it under the table - let's face it - it looks bad if you have hired a bunch of men who would gang rape a woman) then the company should be liable for its employees. KBR has gotten lots of government money and they have been proven time and again to have corrupt practices (double billing the government; not delivering services to our men & women overseas, etc.)... That is why companies should be held liable.”
“How about Biden stays and becomes the counter argument that leads Pres. Obama to rethink his involvement in Afghanistan. Isn't it more likely that he can do that from the vice presidency than from a civilian stance???”
“How would you have them look and dress? Would you like the Pres., Michelle & the kids to dress in rags? Rub some dirt on them? Should they look sour all the time? Would that make you happy? Or would you say that he was trying to live a lie?
They ARE happy! They are a close knit family. In this picture, they are not dressed pretentiously, nor do they look like they walked out of some magazine.
Perhaps, you are not as glad for the Obamas as you think you are and perhaps there is a bit of envy there?
It is true that there are people all around them and YOU who are less fortunate. Pres. Obama is going to try to help them - what are you doing?”
“She definitly is NOT a deep thinker - and if she just takes the word of the Bible and she uses the Bible as her guidepost and not the Constitution of the USA -there should be some way to kick her out of Congress.
Tallk about the separation of church & state? With quotes like these it is very clear that she does not.
You know what? I also see her as very limited & very flawed...”
“Sure, she took on the good ol' boys and then when she had finished using them to get where she wanted to go - she threw them under the bus. She is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
A good number of Republicans that I know told me that when Sarah Palin was added as the VP candidate they KNEW they were going to loose. What has she ever done, but blamed everyone else for her mistakes and use people to get where she wanted to go? At one time there was a word for that - it was called being a "USER" or a "TAKER" and someone who was mostly qualified as being either one were not well liked. Nasty people always get their comeuppance. Sarah is due for hers.”

“Well, she has had more executive governmental experience than the President. Even after she resigned.”
“Is her display case and her model cars relevant? The fact that they jacked up her rate had nothing to do with paying her bills. She had been making her payments and she made everyone of them on time - even though she was laid off from her job. The point was not that she owed the bill; but that they more than doubled her interest rate.
Perhaps the cases and models were purchased when she WAS working. She should not have to sell them off in order to appease Bank of America who raised her interest rate without warning...”
AllieMD on Sep 21, 2009 at 18:57:17
“She was warned - it was in the original article - she wasn't paying attention and failed to opt out. I opted out - so did my daughter.”
“This is how it starts. I keep remembering the James Bond movie where the newspaper guy almost starts a war...He has so much money that he can pour money into coffers everywhere. He even killed his own wife.
Anytime we do not question what someone says. Anytime we blindly accept information from either side without thinking - we are responsible!!!!
Imagine a country so divided that everyone is ready to tear each other apart - for some TV station to get ratings!”

“How old is she? They made such a stink about the Vanity Fair pictures - to me, she looks trashier here than she did in the tasteful photos in the magazine spread. I think it is a shame that we push our gilrs to grow up so fast and dress like a grown up when they are still girls.
That was one thing I liked about Hillary Duff - she seemed to usually dress mostly age appropriate (even if it looked dumb, it was teenage dumb). Miley's face looks about 15 - Would you let a 15 or 16 year old (if it was your daughter) go out of the house in that dress?????”
duze on Sep 19, 2009 at 05:05:52
“Tasteful in Vanity Fair wearing nothing but a towel. Please, she was 15. Which is exactly my point no one knows where exactly the line is that should be drawn and when.”
“I agree about this video - and the interviewer.
I don't believe I have ever seen such ignorance gathered in one place in all my life. Some of them clearly have no clue what they are talking about. Some of them really weren't sure why they were there except to thank Glenn Beck for telling them to come. They want to defend the constitution but they really have no clue what it says.”
