“I think you mean the boom and bust of Miami in the 20s and 30s. In the 20s and 30s Los Angeles actually DID boom. No bust there. In 1920, LA's population was approximately 576,000. By 1930, the population was over 1, 200,000.”

But as to your NJ ("???") You really should get off the TPK! ;) Actually NJ is one of the wealthiest states, with some of the wealthiest counties. 3 are listed here: Morris, Somerset and Hunterdon. Bergen should have been on there as well. Most people's impression of NJ is what they see driving the TPK. NJ has lots of working farms (Sussex County) and rural areas; horse farms, historical towns, etc.. Many Wall Street types, celebrities, actors, sports' stars, even former presidents, do and have called NJ home; (quick access to NYC/Bergen County) Jackie O owned a big horse farm in Hunterdon County. Oh, we have a gorgeous coastline as well! :)
