Center for Reproductive Rights' Letter to CBS: Tebow Story Raises Serious Accuracy Questions

Commented Jan 28, 2010 at 17:27:07 in Sports

“You missed the point padre.

There are two issues here. #1. Abortion is outlawed in the Philippines. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that Mrs. Tebow was going to have an abortion. IF she had, she would have been breaking the law in that country.

Secondly, it is the policy of CBS that they do NOT sell air time for controversial issues (such as abortion).

My position on this is irrelevant. The facts are simple. Mrs. Tebow was NOT going to have a legal abortion in the Philippines. CBS' policy is not to air paid ads such as these.

I sincerely hope you do not twist the words of the good book in the manner you just did from this article.”

“"Mrs. Tebow was NOT going to have a legal abortion in the Philippines"

And the legality of the matter undermines her claim that the option was presented to”

“So since it was illegal in the Phillipines, a woman couldn't possibly have obtained an abortion...Have you ever heard that women in this country, prior to Roe v. Wade, still had abortions, albeit illegal at the time? These were called "back alley" abortions, and the term continues in the lexicon today. Thus, your contentions (and the author's) that Mrs. Tebow is lying about being advised to get an abortion/being able to find a doctor to perform an abortion are illogical and absurd.”
