“You are wrong. We helped ourselves to wealth and resources of Latin America, the Middle East and many other areas, through corporate acquisitions, military engagements, a$$a$$ination$ and covert operations. We were too ignorant to see, however that the inevitable prosperity in Japan, Germany and other nations would never be bombed to its knees again by conventional war. The nuclear bomb may have won World War II but it cost the U.S.A. its position as permanent world ruling nation.”

co-sine replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 12:05:27

“if a home doubled in value from 2000-2006 it didn't follow suit that property taxes also doubled nor did "services" double. california is a good example of frozen property taxes by way of prop.13 (jarvis/gann) and how its still reeling under legislation passed 30 plus years ago. even during the height of the housing bubble were class sizes shrinking, police and fire forces expanding, infrastructure issues being addressed in more than a desultory way? a lot of these service are funded by bond initiatives. depending on the community, most fail. services returning to pre-bubble level? i hope you are right but i think it's unlikely.”

Panther2000 replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 08:11:11

KrugnacTheMagnificent replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 04:07:18

“If houses were vastly overpriced, there would be no risk in building new homes. We see the exact opposite, with home builders being stuck with unsold houses and canceling unfinished projects.

While it's very possible that land values are drastically overpriced, I don't see how the cost of building a home recently could be significantly different from the true market value of that building.”
