“I agree, that's why I think there should be a strict limit on the amount that can be loaned out to students. This will limit the amount of money being poured into the system and force colleges to compete fot students at a lower cost.”
“1. This is better than the system we had before that charged even more interest and the profits went to the bankers.
2. Perhaps it's time to really be serious about bringing down the costs of college, one very simple step that can be taken is to simply limit the amount of money students are allowed to borrow. If this means more people working their way through college, or delaying, so be it, it may create the incentive needed to force colleges to reduce costs.
3. On a personal level, my daughter just started college, she's attending a community college for her first two years, this will cut her college cost almost in half should she decide to continue to go for a 4 year degree.”

“I agree with you that students should work more during college, but to limit the funds through law is a bad idea and just another example of a nanny state. I as well went to a two year college to save money. I had two years of school with no debt. But now I'm in Grad school and now looking at hundreds of thousands in debt. I would take steps to cut the pay of all the instructors and administrators of colleges. 10% would be great start, no more will they enjoy a nice easy ride on the backs of students.”

“My daughter went 3 years to a Junior college with a scholarship before transferring to university. Even with loans and grants she still came out of school with over $100,000 in school loans. It's really hard to work and go to school for some majors. My daughter was a music major so not only did she have homework she also had to practice 4 to 6 hours a day on her piano.”
“When I look at the chaos within the Muslim world I can understand Israel's fear, but as long as they continue to seize more land and push people out of their homes their situation will only get worse.”
“Rand is not a smart guy, I didn't know to much about him till the debt ceiling debate when I saw him interviewed. He really seemed to think not raising the debt limit was such a big deal, he seemed oblivious to the economic chaos it would have caused.”
“A piecemeal approach will mean no meaningful reform. Republicans will only pass parts of the bill that they favor like a bigger 20 billion dollar wall, and a army of boarder enforcers or funding for police to check everyone's paper or perhaps rules allowing temporary workers to work for slave labor for large corporate farms, but they won't pass laws allowing 'dreamers' to gain citizenship.”

“Isn't this how they do everything? These people do not have the slightest idea how to govern, and don't give a damn what is good for we the people or this country. It is the me, myself, and I party, and screw everyone else.”
“The vast majority of Americans will find that come January 2014 that they'll still have health care plans that in most cases will be the same or less than what they pay now. By November of 2014 they'll realize that the right wing media was lying and that Republicans are going to raise their costs if they take away the ACA.”

“The only folks who are getting lower cost plans are those that are being subsidized - the rest of us are paying higher premiums and that is why the ACA website was designed to shield this information from the consumer - you have to sign up to find out what's in it!”
“Today, I went on the website to see what my costs would be for the new health care plan, for me and my family of 4 it came out to $25 more per month than what I had before, the new plan will cover a little bit more, so I should come out ahead.
I don't qualify for the subsidy, but judging from the income ranges to get subsidies I'd guess that the vast majority of people in my State of NC will get some subsidies.
I have a feeling when people begin looking at their own situations that many will be very happy with the lower costs for the them and their families.”

“I do think that the people that complain the most and yell the loudest are the ones that haven't even bothered to look into the new health care plans.”
“Actually, I simply decided to check for myself, in other words I gathered my own facts using the actual web-site and getting an actual price quote for myself. You might want to give it a try yourself!”
“The GOP is hoping that the ACA will be a disaster that will make up for their unpopularity. This is why FoxNews and the rest of the right wing media is now running a 24/7 attack on the ACA.
This morning I logged into the Healthcare.gov website and got a quote for what my insurance will cost next year. Since I've bought insurance for years it was easy for me to compare what I paid before and what I'll pay in the future. The plan I've self-insured with before was the equivelant of a Bronze plan. The new plan available will cost me about $25 more than my previous plan, the new plan provides more comprehensive coverage so I'd come out ahead. This despite the fact that I live in NC where plans are higher than the national average thanks to our lack of private competition and our governor's decision not to expand Medicaid.”

“We were creating more jobs before the capital gains taxes were cut. The increased/decrease in revenue generally is just a one year deal when the tax is changed.”

“Part-time low-wage jobs. Like I said the issue is more complex than raising taxes. Our job growth is anemic at best. the only reason the the U# is stable is because of people exiting the workforce. Look to the U6 as a better economic indicator. ”
“Or we could eliminate the subsidies to oil companies, or eliminate the many tax breaks large businesses get even as they reap in billions in profits, or figure out a way to tax money that the extremely wealthy hide in secret accounts in the Cayman Islands. You know, people like Mitt.”

“or we could concentrate on creating jobs and economic growth. We need a bigger pie, not government taking an ever larger slice of a shrinking pie. ”
“Doesn't have to be that way at all, lets just tax capital gains and dividends the same as income that won't hurt the middle class at all since 90% of them have no assets.”
dad4lifesl on Oct 17, 2013 at 19:54:31
“When you increase the cap gains tax, historically revenue into the federal government decreases. The real key to more revenue is economic prosperity for the entire country. I am talking about jobs, not part-time low-wage jobs like we are creating now. This can also be connected to other issues like incentives for small business and education.”
“Without the individual mandate the entire law collapses. You can't say that insurance companies must accept all people even with pre-existing conditions and not get as many people to sign up as possible.”

“Yes I could say that, and insurance companies can stick it, if they don't like it.”
