“Shut down government over a funding resolution that's good for only six weeks, anyway? Democrats refuse to negotiate? What are they supposed to be negotiating over and who are they supposed to be negotiating with? I think that to most Americans this is simply stupid.”

Commented May 16, 2013 at 14:49:54 in Politics

“Read down and the article states that this figure is for life-time earnings and it is not comparing student loan interest rates per year to corporate profits. Still, it is wrong for government to be profiting on the backs of college students. Don't want to charge student loans at the same rate being charged to financial institutions? How about charging financial institutions what is being charged to students? Especially after July 1st when the rate on student loans goes up to 6%.”

“The people in the Boston area were no cowering in their homes. The order was given requesting that people stay indoors so that the authorities could do their job, which they have done quite well. Imagine to potential carnage if people were as armed as Bell has suggested they should be. People shot because of mistaken identity. The authorities having to deal with bunches of people feeling stupidly brave because they have a big gun. Bell's comment was not only insulting it was stupid.”

Commented Apr 18, 2013 at 13:35:27 in Politics

“We already have some gun control. Civilians are not allowed to own machine guns. As there are plenty of other weapons that people are not allowed to own. And this has little to do with ownership. The issue was about gun background checks and there is absolutely no reason not to support this, unless one believes the lies and conspiracy nuts out there. The only reason any politician can have to have voted against background checks on all gun purchases is that they are afraid of the NRA and being primaried in their next campaign.”

Mitt Romney Encouraged Business Owners To Advise Employees How To Vote

Commented Oct 18, 2012 at 17:12:40 in Politics

“This should un-qualify Romney to ever be President. As recent reports have shown, employees are being blackmailed by their employers to vote Republican. Such actions may be legal but they are also highly immoral. It takes away the privacy of the voting booth. To me, this is voter fraud. The employer might as well be in the voting booth checking the boxes for his employee.”

2) Unions have strong armed member for decades to vote DEMOCRAT- They even took their due to pay off- I mean make a contribution, even if the member did NOT want to support the candidate-
3) What actions are illegal- Many states have a 60 day notice of mass layoffs- Obama is ANTI BUSINESS and if re elected the companies have already complied with these state laws
4) Voting in an enclosed voting booth provides privacy- except in certain union strongholds
5) YOU HAVE FAILED!”

Social Security Battle: AARP Plans Secret 'Salon' With Social Security Opponents

Commented Mar 16, 2012 at 16:34:14 in Politics

“I think part of the problem with AARP is that they primarily represent middle-class retirees. I am a member. I am also retired with an annual income of about $18,000, mostly Social Security. I manage to find the funds to keep my membership. I get their daily newsletter and monthly magazine. Very little of their focus in on people like me, whose income is primarily or solely Social Security. The people they generally represent, ie middle-class with good incomes during their working lives, could deal with cuts with little bother. For people like me, it would border on or be catastrophic. And, yes, I have voiced my feelings and opinions to them. If AARP is going to be a voice for retired people, they need to be the voice for all retired people and not just those who have membership.”

New Hampshire's Right-To-Work Bill Is Not A Job Creator, Critics Say

Commented Feb 10, 2012 at 13:06:50 in Business

“It is not "right-to-work". It is the right of an employer to fire any employee at any time for any or no reason. It leads to lower wages, fewer if any benefits and no job security. How does this help working Americans?”

emcconnell on Feb 10, 2012 at 13:53:19

“It also allows an employer to fire the deadbeat employee that has previously protected by the unuon.
It allows the employer to set up a merit based pay system, paying employees what they are worth.
I've never had any problem getting a decent wage and benefits in non union shops because I was a productive worker that had a lot to offer. If you don't want to push and rise sbove the rest, then ride the wave of mediocracy. Unions are like sosialism. They kill productivity and promote mediocracy.
Why do you think you have to pay $40,000 for a $20,000 chevy truck? The company has to cover the cost of hauling around all the deadbeats.”

Wall Street Employees Threaten To Quit If Bonuses Aren't Up To Snuff

Commented Jan 9, 2012 at 14:28:48 in Business

“Talk about greed. Also, why didn't the article state actual monetary figures and not simply percentages up or down from previous years? Is somebody who is maybe expecting a $10 million bonus only going to get $7 million? That would be a 30% decrease but to report that said person will likely get a 30% decrease in bonus says nothing. Even if the bonus is only in the, say, $100,000 range, it is still difficult to feel much sympathy for this person. Certainly not by us people who get less than $50,000 (some of us way less than that) a year with no bonus. Let them quit. Maybe then they'll see how the rest of us live, how the rest of us simply want to be treated fairly.”
