“42% of adults have a college degree? Nonsense. It's likely that this figure is drawn from a pool of working Americans that does not include such adults as : those dependent on public assistance, those incarcerated, discouraged workers, retirees, etc. The statement that 42% of adult Americans have a college degree is demonstrably false.”

blaine d on Oct 20, 2013 at 12:26:35

“They don't define "college degree" very well in the article. If it includes any degree from any college, that would pad the numbers dramatically.”

“Paper record keeping is both relatively and uncommon till very recently. My aunt who died in the early 1990s was born between 1900 and 1905. They did not keep records of female births in that community and her younger brother was born in 1905. Her mother was born in the 1870s and died in the late 1960s. The men in the family were all diabetic and had heart disease. The longest surviving man lived to be 82 because his wife made him exercise, sleep and eat a healthy diet. My own father died in his early 50s because he was unwilling to deal with his need to control his diet and rest adequately.

I have now outlived my father by 10 years but I do not expect to live as long as my grandmother. Her husband dies by the time he was 50.”

Ancient DNA Linked To Living Descendants In Genetic Study

“I read the title and immediately laughed out loud. Where exactly do people think their DNA comes from? Could it be their ancestors? I know they like to dumb down the science, but we're not in kindergarten.”

TheOverlord on Jul 10, 2013 at 01:13:20

“I think it is an introduction to something you could use a search engine to find out more about it in about 10 seconds. This is incredibly interesting science because it is a phenomenon that helps people understand evolution and just why it certainly does exist. Not only that but it is a central concept to understanding the universe.

This study does not technically even study human DNA. It is the study of mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondria are not of human origin. In fact it has it's own DNA and nuclear machinery exactly like a bacteria. The evolution of the simple cell to a complex cell like in animals occured when our single-celled ancestor cells fused with another species! We are chimera's and the study of mitochondrial DNA gives us not only proof but also insight into how that happened.

This is the understanding of where we came from and how we got here. Also, once people understand this one fact about the world it can literally transform the understanding of how life actually works.”
