“Contrary to what this article suggests, there currently is no "humane" way to kill a lobster.
Lobsters contain a total of EIGHT ganglia, or "brains." While the procedure above would remove the dorsal brain, it does nothing to prevent the seven other brains from functioning. Numerous peer-reviewed articles have shown that lobsters not only feel pain, but fail to die after painful procedures such as pithing or boiling.”
“This piece does a great job of accurately depicting the state of companion animals. Every kitten and puppy that is brought into this word leaves another animal homeless--left to die on the streets or through injection by overwhelmed and overpopulated shelters.
Newkirk hit it right on the nail, the only way we can achieve a "no-kill" nation is by creating a "no-birth" nation.
And I'd like to commend PETA on their creative campaigns--clearly they do a good job of gaining public attention and media. More than that, though, appealing to the morals of Roman Catholics not only makes sense (as Newkirk said, the Pope himself advocates animal kindness), but prevents a new way to spread the spay and neuter message.”
