“Harvard is probably responsible for the biggest brain-drain of intellect in the world. They will stop at nothing to make sure nobody outside their student body/staff gets a hold of new innovations. Especially from foreign students, give credit where its due.”
“"...If any family in this country struggles then we can not be in contempt with our own families good fortune." Michelle Obama.
This sorts of sentiments are from the American I know and for many hopefully the America will get to know. Its not socialism but rather the act of giving back, once you know that you've truly been blessed. Like Adriana wrote in a recent article that philanthropy is almost unintentional for the extremely rich. Because what else is there left to do once you have acquired more than your handsome share of riches? The thrill of summing up money is gone so the only notable one left is the thrill for making someone else enjoy the same opportunities.”
“I am not trying to sound as if I am yelling, "down with corporate America" while folllowing a lynch mob. I am acknowledging the fact that yes the tax is obviously a big concern for the very rich who seem to be mostly Republicans. The fact of the matter is, the economy has been down Obama's not trying to wreck it, his actually attempting to fix it. Both sides clearly know that the steps policy makers make today will shape America tomorrow and everyone has shared their sentiment of NOT passing on this burden of debt to out children. America is not the only economy in crisis look at Europe, Greece?Spain? France which is the fifth biggest economy in the world has an unemployment rate of about 10.9% if not more by now. Chief economists have come together and have tried to find the best way to fix this problem. Since, the middle-class and lower has been badly hit what sense would it make to yet impose on them further taxes on income some do not even have. The only option would be to tax those that can afford to give a little, but not to put the burden on them entirely. Both sides will have to reach a fiscally acceptable agreement, in which adjustments are concerned, especially in regards to what and where can these taxes be placed for explicitly.”

“THE TAX INCREASE IS A JOKE!! YOU & I BOTH KNOW IT WILL FUND THE GOVT FOR 8 DAYS!!! IT WAS A CLASS WARFARE PLOY TO GET ELECTED
WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 357 DAYS & I WOULDN'T USE EUROPE AS A MODEL TO FOLLOW!!! THE GOVT DOESN'T CREATE PRODUCT OR REVENUE!!! WE DON'T HAVE A REVENUE PROBLEM WE HAVE A SPENDING PROBLEM!!! PRESIDENT OBAMA BORROWED MORE MONEY IN ONE TERM THAN ALL THE OTHER PRESIDENTS COMBINED!!!
WHEN THE RICH ARE BLED DRY THE MIDDLE CLASS WILL BE NEXT!!!
& WE WILL BE IN THE STREETS RIOTING JUST LIKE GREECE!!!
IF WE CONTINUE DOWN THIS PATH THERE WILL BE NO UPPER OR MIDDLE CLASS!!! ONLY THE GOVT & THE POOR!!! ON A SIDE NOTE I WANT TO COMPLIMENT YOU ON YOUR DEMEANOR & FRANK CANDOR OF YOUR POST!! YOU ARE A GOOD JOE & I CAN TELL YOU LOVE THE U S A AS MUCH AA I DO!!! THAT SAID LORD HELP US ALL!!!!!!!!!!”
“Unfortunately, this stand off is much more serious than I thought. The Affordable Care Act is going to do quite a bit of damage as it applies in so many cases including but not limited to, investments, dividends, foreign income etc. A 3.8 % tax on almost everything will truly be a pinch in anybody's wallet especially for the filthy rich. Although, it seems that corporate America has taken advantage on the common man for far too long. Obama has them, lets face it. No one has ever been able to take these guys head on like that. I applaud you for your efforts Mr. President.”

“EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO WRECK THE ECONOMY TO DO IT!!!!!!!”
“Although I do have a wild imagination I hate the feeling that I always almost never accomplish my goals. I come so close to the finish line and their is always something that comes in the way and ruins all that I've worker so hard for. I mean literally out of the window, as if I'm destined for failure. I hate to think that but the more I try, it seems there are about 10 people elsewhere making sure I don't succeed. Unfortunately, this really bothers me knowing very well that we have free will but at times its seems as if chaos just gets in the way.”
“"It's okay to have an inner sanctum. People need to create a solitude and give themselves permission to do so. Everyone needs to find their own fortress of solitude." Is it really okay to open these doors and learn to deal with it everyday. I've always been curious about this but my upbringings make me too conservative to express myself freely in this manner. Although, it is clear to me that other intelligences exist when does it become ok and is it ok to be comfortable with it.”
“I agree with you in most parts. I did a terrible mistake supporting the idea of the Harry Potter series after numerous churches rejected it on sight. I thought it was an interesting plot and good for kids imaginations only to realize that my niece started reading nothing but weird fantasy novels. Although, I do give her credit for yes building kids imaginations and strengthening their reading skills(have you seen the size of those books) her story lines are definitely a bit more out of the ordinary. Whats concerning is just how much it has influenced our kids,(watch disney or nick and see whats going on there). Surely, if an imagination is important, we can think of other ways to promote it rather than drawing a straight line between reality and strange fiction.”

“Weird fantasy? Strange fiction? Let me guess, like Tolkein, Lewis and L'Engle, right? God save children from people with no imaginations!!!”

“Are you joking? I hope this comment is meant to be satire...”
“Are you implying that you would prefer hundreds of thousands of Africans and other commuities that are largely hindered by the HIV virus to die? If that really a suitable, rational factor in conquering population control? Anyone with such views is obviously not much of a 'gentle reader' now is it.”
Gentle Reader on Sep 24, 2012 at 21:25:17
“OMG no, a thousand times no.See my comment: I really think that an end to HIV and malaria is a wonderful thing, and I regularly contribute to these causes.
But I do think we are going to to have to become very smart and creative about encouraging family planning to cultures that my have difficulty giving up the security and the cultural imperative of a large number of children. See Barbara Kingsolver's fantastic novel The Poisonwood Bible on this subject.”
“It is not to say how it would affect his image, it is to show the contrast that is necessary for one to draw a difference (if yes indeed the new findings are factual). But, yes it would make his image more human and if you ask me I believe it would make things clearer for us to understand. Maybe even make things easier for fundamental Christians and Catholics like say Bishops who never get married and believe in devout abstinence. This I think would be the major impact and hopefully a positive impact since it would make priests 'loosen their collars' sort to speak. For those that do live their lives freely to not have to hide their affairs. Although it is a huge leap for some as far as the doctrine is concerned, it will definitely have negative and some positive effects in the church. Obviously many will oppose it and others will agree. Yet again I think the major decision should have to be taken in the consideration of the church as a whole today and most importantly tomorrow.”
“As Christians or simply literature analysts who read the bible and deduce whatever we want from it, it is clear that many questions should be raised on such matters. Especially with the number of critics in our time and even before skepticism is almost at its highest. The story of Jesus has always intrigued me as a child. We must agree that a lot is left out concerning his life e.g. his early childhood, his relationship with his father/mother and yes intimate encounters. Although, it feels like blasphemy to even imagine such things it is only right for us to ask these questions not just as critics but as scholars. As his life plays out in the bible it does make sense that maybe he never did have a wife because that corresponds with his mysticism in which his disciples and others portray him. The man that calls himself the son of God, that performed wonders and yes never sinned against his flesh.”

“IT TROUBLES ME THAT THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION PUTS SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON "SIN".
I ALSO QUESTION A LOVING GOD WHO WOULD GIVE HIS ONLY BELOVED SON TO BE
CRUCIFIED FOR THE "SINS" OF OTHERS. IF GOD IS ALL POWERFUL, WHY WOULD THIS
BE NECESSARY? IF I WERE GOD, AND "SIN" WAS A BIG CONCERN OF MINE, I WOULD
LET EACH INDIVIDUAL PAY FOR HIS OWN TRANSGRESSIONS.
