How Emotionally Intelligent Are You? Here's How To Tell

“Yep, and you have proven my point. You have cherry picked info. about the arctic ice melt - discounting years of study and significant data that illustrate a huge loss of ice. Your comment that you would take a critical look at your doctor's advice is fine - exactly what I referred to in my last sentence. 2nd and 3rd opinions should always be considered - but you should NOT discount someone's experienced, opinion/advice/expertise because it's not in line with your own non fact based "opinion". I am not going to get into a long dialogue with you about your global warming comments - I just hope you have the good sense to research it further than you have based on your very incomplete inferences above.”

“OK, when your Dr. tells you you have a condition requiring medication, just let your own opinion trump his/her academic credentials. I actually do get your point - but blowing off a lifetime of study on a specific topic because you don't (want to) agree with it is stupid. Sort of like all the people now who are blowing off the scientific community's warnings about global warming - keep saying it's "just opinion", scientists make mistakes, it's "just a theory" blah, blah, until it's too late. Being smart is also about listening to those who know more than you do on a specific topic. If you want to challenge it, fine, but do so with research and factual information, not someone's backyard opinion.”

Rache511 on Dec 7, 2013 at 15:29:13

“Several points to address here. I like your global warming example. The scientists who have preached the gospel of human causation for global warming recently had to pause for thought, since their computer based projections and predictions of 15 years ago have failed utterly to materialize. One prediction was that in 2013, the Arctic Ice Cap would have totally disappeared --in fact, it grew 29% larger! As for your first example, I'm not going to blindly follow any doctor's opinion regarding my health care needs --I would take a critical look at the medication proffered and exercise my own best judgment, likely getting a second opinion if the matter were serious enough to warrant it. Doctors come in all "shapes and sizes", the same as the rest of humanity. Some are good at their trade, some aren't. Medical mistakes are commonplace. I regard it as "stupid" to take an expert's word for something as if God, Herself, had spoken. It was JFK who said --following the Bay of Pigs debacle-- "That's the last time I ever take the experts' word for something."”

“Ok, Mr. Nitpicker. Compare it to home owner's insurance. You have to get insurance on your house if you have a mortgage. An overall, rather broad, general policy that protects against most potential problems. ( Your house may never have a tree fall through the roof because you already cut all the trees down, but your neighbor's house might). That policy, however, doesn't cover individual items like an antique dresser or g'ma's diamond earrings unless you specifically itemize those things and pay extra for them - that would be comparable to paying for specific insurance to cover your RV ON TOP OF the REQUIRED insurance you have as a licensed driver - or a musician who pays extra to cover their hands. For example, I own a horse trailer - I am not required to insure it above and beyond my personal driver's insurance) If I insure my trailer I am insuring something SEPERATE from my required driving insurance, which is pretty much the same as everyone else's driver's insurance, no matter what sex or age they are. My premium may vary slightly, based on my history, but the coverage is more or less the same no matter who I am or what kind of car I drive.

You are splitting hairs, which is really rather an unproductive activity no matter which side of the issue you sit on.”

“Well, for one thing it IS normal and second - a group of actors doing a song and dance routine in costume isn't throwing gay sexuality in your face. Would you object to a routine with a group of women dressed up like, say, construction workers, in jeans and work boots and hard hats?? Think about it now.............”

dumplingpoo on Dec 2, 2013 at 11:24:17

“If they were in skin tight, cut up to the crotch type of construction wear with lace up thigh high work boots that made the routine one of a purposely sexual nature that is inappropriate in a public place full of children-- then yes, I would object to that. I could care less about the show or the song/dance. It just doesn't belong in a family parade.”

Close your eyes, it's a great song, with a great message that all kids SHOULD hear - they aren't too young. Some of you must really have sexual hangups if you can't get past the costumes and hear the message.”

“Sad that folks think "the greatest generation" has come and gone. I think EVERY generation has unique challenges and demands placed on it, and every generation has many great people who do super human things to meet those challenges. I don't know how you can say one generation is better than another. Remember it is human nature to remember the good things about past times while the negative memories tend to fade.”

“Half of the people in the country now think the other half owes them a living. Most of the Greatest Generation grew up during the depression, went to war to save THE WORLD then came home home to work hard, have families and help rebuild a broken world. We could NEVER handle the the challenges that they overcame with th gimmee population we have now.”

wch2011 on Nov 28, 2013 at 19:37:34

“They're called the "greatest generation" because they were. It wasn't one or two or a thousand people, it was an entire generation that put their lives at stake for freedom. AN ENTIRE GENERATION. Had it not been for them, you wouldn't be allowed your freedoms. And when the "negative memories" of WWII fade, when the memories of the atrocities committed to mankind by the Nazis, then mankind will turn a blind eye to outrageous, criminal acts of governments against mankind once again! No, the "negative memories" must never be allowed to fade.”

“While I agree in essence with what you say, it is hard to imagine "the greatest generation" including the likes of Bieber, Miley, and the Toronto mayor who should probably be in prison instead of continuing to force himself on the citizens of Toronto”

“I am appalled, not by the gift to the woman as much as by the assumptions made by the commenters. No where in the article did it say this woman is using govt. assistance. It actually says she leaves at 6 to go to a job. No where did it say she has 10 baby daddies, or 1 - we have absolutely no way of knowing what her romantic life is like. For all we know the kids had the same dad and he died. It said she was going to an annual free turkey give away event and instead received a car donated by a DEALERSHIP(not the US govt) because she was nominated by someone who knows her personally(and therefore knows more about her circumstances than any of us on this blog) All your snippy, mean spirited insinuations are just guesses. They may or may not be accurate, but the fact that you would spout them off without anything to back them up proves you people are just mean!”

“You are suggesting that Ocare would force pro lifers to terminate pregnancies? Or be forced to use birth control? Hmmmm, that's news to me. I don't see how legally allowing folks who want it access to birth control et. al. is forcing those with strong pro life beliefs to go against their beliefs. Yes, we CAN seperate Church and state, and we certainly should. When religious beliefs dictate laws then all are being forced to live under those particular religious ideologies, that is no more right than it would be to force someone who is pro-life to get an abortion.”

martinoweek on Nov 27, 2013 at 13:08:04

“Well you see people with strong religious beliefs believe it's a sin to associate one's self with any programs that condone termination of pregnancy, except of course for certain circumstances like rape. This country was founded under religious beliefs, hence the President saying God Bless America after his speeches. This does not hinder bias laws in any way, but I agree that if the said law did it should be examined upon.”
