“You do know that we are in 2012 right? So people who choose to not get married should never get to have sex? Makes no sense.”
aneagle on Aug 22, 2012 at 11:50:35
“Yes, whatever year comes the word of God will not change. Sex is holy that should be done only by a husband and wife married under the church with God's blessings. God has a promise when you do this -- Sex first of all was made by God for us to multiply but with God's blessings (marriage).”
“My take has always been... if your child can have a conversation with you about breastfeeding then its time to stop... its an uncomfortable thing to see a five year old breastfeeding...Imagine that... a plate of food in one hand and a glass of breast milk to wash it down......just creepy”
“I gave the second episode a chance since I was not impressed by the first and as I am nearing the end of my 20s I must say that while my relationships with my friends and men in my early 20s was different this show certainly does show the awkwardness of the early 20 male/female, and female/female relationship.”
“My philosophy of teaching has always been to teach students HOW to think rather than teaching them WHAT to think. I know my own personal beliefs and I understand that many students have beliefs systems that are based on their parents belief systems, however I always teach my students to read between the lines and always think about the perspective of the opposition. Another thing I teach student to do is be able to use a Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning framework when presenting their ideas in their writing and during discussions. This way students learn not to take opinions and turn them into facts unless they are able to provide evidence and reasoning. I have yet to come across a student who can prove the claim that Adam and Eve were real, the Earth is only 5400 years old, and was created in 7 days.”

“Linielle Campbell: IMHO, thinking is the arrangement of information (evidence) in order to reach a conclusion. If you don't have a broad array of information, you can't think.”

“How often does a student who believes that Adam and Eve were real, the Earth is only 5400 years old, and was created in 7 days change their mind on the basis of instruction in CER?”

“What you say about teaching students how to think is absolutely true. Reasoned thought is inshort supply in this country.
But is teaching accepted science really teaching them "what to think"? If you teach them that the acceleration due to gravity at sea level is about 9.8m/s^2, is that teaching them what to think?
I guess the problem I have with your comment is that science isn't a "belief system."
But perhaps that's not really what you meant.”
Steelheadangler on Jan 19, 2012 at 15:10:12
“I agree with most of your statement in that we are much better off as a nation if all our children learn critical thinking skill, how to research and how to interpret data. That said, I don't see how presenting the overwhelming amount of scientific evidence supporting the scientific theory of climate change is in anyway teaching students what to think anymore than teaching any other well founded science such as the scientific theory of chemistry, or gravity...”
“People need to learn to set limits and practice a bit of self control. I shop on Gilt, Beyond the Rack, Ideeli, and Hautelook. They have allowed me to diversify my wardrobe and discover new designers and styles. I could never imagine racking up $2000 per month on a credit card. Have these women ever heard of a budget?”

“How does someone "act black"?”

“Ain’t you been round us long enough to know? You be trippin’. Don’t be curryin’ me like dat! I am black! (while rolling my neck) Don’t you see me with my Kente head wrap? (still rolling my neck)......
Ohhh so that’s it, Paula doesn’t roll her neck! Dammit she’s NOT black!”
“What is the true definition of obese? Oh yes the BMI which is nonsense. Someone can have a high BMI but can still be fit. The BMI has never heard of genetics.
I don't think black women want to be obese. Most cultures prefer women with curves - in all the right places of course. It is a sign of health, fertility, and youth. If there was a large scale study where every man on earth was shown two pictures- 1. A 5'6" woman at 110 lbs with hip bones sticking out with no curves and 2. A 5'6" woman at 170lbs with a little extra in the rump, the belly, and the thighs, I bet they would say woman #2 is healthier and more attractive.”

“How about a 5'6" woman at 140?”
Shantella Sherman on Dec 9, 2011 at 13:02:01
“Great question and point Linelle. The other problem with this article is its gender bias. Men can look like they just ate Detroit, and for some reason it is not about their looks, their slovenliness, or their health. The average American woman has a BMI over 30 and is a clothing size 16; while the average American man has a BMI over 35 and is a clothing size 42 or XL. If you can be healthier, than by all means do it. If you are simply being bullied into believing you are unhealthy when you're really not, then get a grip and stop allowing other people's judgements to rule your life.”

...And I bet YOU that all of the men who said that woman #2 is healthier , would ALSO have "a little extra in the rump, the belly, and the thighs.”

“BMI actually classifies body builders as obese, so the BMI chart doesn't work with anyone with higher muscle mass.”

“"What is the true definition of obese?"
You cant see you toes while standing straight or with your back to the wall.”
“I'm so sick of reading so many articles about the problem. Where are the practical solutions? Where are the solutions about better parenting, better ways to evaluate students and teachers, identifying the true definition of student achievement, making sure that administrator, teachers, parents, and students are all held equally accountable? Where are the solutions for ensuring students can actually survive post high school whether it be at college or in a job?”

“That was cancelled at the last meeting of "No Child Left Behind." You didn't get the memo?”
“While I understand your point about proving or disproving either of the two- I have to say this as a former educator..... Evolution is much more believable than Creationism. We can actually see things like natural selection take place in populations and track how genes move in and out of a population and speciation is observable in some organisms.
DO you really think the Earth is only 4000 or 5000 years old? How can you teach that to a child and call yourself a science teacher???”
wakohnen on Nov 30, 2011 at 15:25:25
“The earth could be millions of years old, my point is where did life come from in the first place? There very well could have been life long before humans. Could have been homo-sapiens long before Adam and Eve. Maybe we all are decendants of an alien race, but the question remains. How was life created? Lots of speculation but no real answers. I know what I believe in my heart and it works for me.”
“I bet you believe the Earth is only 5000 years old too? Evolution is a process that takes millions of years. It has been happening for about 3 billion years. The likelihood of us ever seeing speciation in an organism like a human or ape within our lifetime is extremely low. However, evolution does occur in organisms like bacteria each day. This is how antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria arise. How else would you explain the mutations in the HIV virus. It all comes back to the fundamental mechanisms that drive evolution. Read a book or two or three before you try to look for evidence of a "humanonkey"”
“This is one of my many problems with religion. They want the women separate from the men, but if the women want to help each other they can't because ....... I can't even repeat the rationalization. Look, if one person wants to save another person's life there should be no question about gender. Hell if I was on the floor bleeding to death and a transgendered doctor came to rescue trust me I would not care.”
