“Interesting I said nothing about the Live Strong Foundation. But the idea that the Foundation accomplished it efforts without the image and story of Lance is amusing. Lance's recovery was the compelling story that launched the organization. I was talking about his book he wrote after his recovery titled It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life and his inspiration of his story. You can't take that away from him because he cheated and ruthlessly defended his lie.
People whining about doping in cycling is like complaining about doping in track and field especially in the 80-90's. When the testing lab from the 84 Olympics started re-testing samples a few years back with current technology they stopped because they realize most athletes they retested had an banded substance in their system. Shocking...NO.
Did you notice the ICU not only stripped Lance of his title but did not give the title to another participant. They knew riders including Lance were using banded substances and blood transfusion. They want to pretend these years did not happen.
The problem is when people cheat or do something wrong or illegal their critics try to destroy everything they have accomplished. We saw the same thing with Marion Jones after she was forces to admit she used PEDs, Mike Vick after he was proven to have been involved with dogfighting, Bill Clinton after Monica, Tiger Woods after his numerous relationships outside his marriage, and the list goes on. ”

“I for one happen to agree with Spike that slavery should not have been used in a spaghetti western/black exploitation flick. It is a blatant disregard for the inhuman, sadistic, murderous, and violent nature of the institution of slavery and depth of human suffering and lives lost. The fact that the majority of people who have seen the movie endorse QTs callous use of slavery and profiteering does not surprise me. After all many people are more interested in being entertained not whether or not some human experiences should be handle with greater respect and consideration because of the historical and present day implications.
At no point has Spike stated or implied that he is speaking for all black people. He never said his opinion was more important than others. He simply expressed his personal opinion. Now the black police who value their opinion and film preferences above others are implying that he is trying to speak for them and ALL black people. He never comments on Jamie's character or the storyline. The only concern he raised was about using slavery in the movie and how such a horrific institution should be used in the type of film. ”

“The majority of slaves were kidnapped and sold into bondage. Europeans and Africans were involved in raids and kidnapping. Since Africans rarely targeted the own ethnic group it is very dishonest to suggest Jamie's ancestors sold his ancestors into slavery. This logic only makes sense if you believe all Africans are the same, which is ridiculous. So clearly you do not know the facts. You are just a provacateur making comments without any historical understanding of subject.”

“You do not need to see a flick to criticize the concept. He is not critiquing the film somseeing or not seeing It does not matter. He is saying that slavery cost millions of human beings their lives and should not be used in this type of film. It is highly questionable to use the subject of slavery in the manner that QT does in his flick. It is amusing that Jamie finds Spike's comments shady and irresponsible but does not recognize how disrespectful it is use slavery in this flick.”

Sheria Reid on Jan 20, 2013 at 03:40:45

“If he hasn't seen it, how does Lee know what type of film it is? How does he know what manner in which Tarantino used the subject of slavery? His opinion would carry a lot more weight with me if he had seen the film and pointed out specific issues that he has with its treatment of slavery. Besides, who appointed Spike Lee as the arbiter of how slavery may be portrayed in film?

I'm as black as Spike and older, meaning that I grew up in the 1950s in a segregated America. I actually experienced Jim Crow racism directly. I also have seen Django. I found nothing offensive nor disrespectful in the film; it was about a disgraceful era in American history but it was also a powerful story about love, friendship, and bravery. Jamie Foxx played a black man who was a hero, not something that we see a lot of in today's movies.

You are welcome to your opinions but so are the rest of us. Spike Lee is not the voice of black people in this country. He's one man who stated his opposition to Django before the film was even released.”

In his fictional story involving slavery, the slaves work in a club, kitchen, and dinning room. It may not be romanticized but it is simply ridiculous!”

“When have you heard of Spike pitching a violence, revengeful, and bloody retribution flick? Never! Look at the types of films Spike makes and QT makes. Let's be honest QT is obsessed with violence, retribution, and killing people. Spike is story teller who like to examine race, ethnic tension, the black experience, urban life and politics. The idea that Spike would even want to make a film like QTs latest flick defies logic and reason.”

“It's "perspective" and it's not irresponsible at all. It's Foxx taking some responsibility for his decision to do the movie and the finished product on the screen. He's responding to what Spike said, another way to take responsibility. Spike, on the other hand, has an opinion about a story he hasn't seen, or, interestingly enough hasn't endeavored to tell as a director. Irresponsible, thy name is Mookie.”

“Spike is entitled to his view. The quality and importance of his work speaks for itself. Malcolm X, Inside Man, 4 Little Girls, When the Levees Broke, Miracle At St. Anne and Get on the Bus are all excellent films. To claim his criticism is an attempt to remain relevant lacks any credibility, QT is not the important nor is his typical retribution drama.

Face it some people recognize the incredible pain, suffering, and death slavery cause, whike others think it is an acceptable pretext for a spaghetti western/black-exploitation flick. Spike's critics are like Sarah Palin always whining with little or nothing important to say.”
