“Not true. My friend - who dislocated his arm - was sent back to the waiting room, because the doctors didn't like the look of his insurance plan (ie not enough money). Only when he passed out in pain did they agree to see him”
I really feel for you, Americans. If I lived over there, I would be tearing my hair out over this bullshit. Over here in the UK, I don't think that ad would even be allowed.
I knew the facts of life before I could read. And guess what? I've never had an unwanted pregnancy, never had to have an abortion, never took the morning after pill. If Bristol Palin had been taught sex ed at a young age, perhaps she wouldn't be in her current situation.”
“What does femininity have to do with it? No one is knocking her for being feminine. That's the last of our concerns. What do you even mean by femininity, anyway?
It sounds like you haven't actually met many of these foreign feminists you speak of, because I'm one of them and this does not ring true at all. And I absolutely think you can be a feminist and a conservative - even though I am definitely not the latter - but only if you are supporting women's rights. Palin is pro-life - that, to me, marks her as decidedly unfeminist.”
“Hear hear. I totally agree.
Jesus is supposed to stand for peace, forgiveness, love, respect (for other nations, cultures etc?)... Just like Muslim terrorists, these people are misusing a fundamentally peaceful religion for their own gain.
Also - HappyDae - it is possible to believe in family if you don't support McCain/Palin. I certainly do. And just because people are more important than animals, doesn't mean we should destroy our planet.”
“The American family is the strongest institution in the world?
Perhaps, but only if by "world" you mean "America".
There's a whole other world out there, also full of people with their own family values. You are not the world.”

“Exactly, this post says it all. The American family is not the most powerful institution in the world. In fact it is one of the most fragile and cruel, where grandparents get shipped off to nursing homes to waste away the end of their days and children are tossed out at 18 to fend for themselves. The "family" is arguably the strongest in Asian countries (but also the most restrictive and repressive).
Basically, the American nuclear family was the ideal unit of mass consumption of the mid-late 20th century. It was engineered as such, not by God, but by the market.”
