San Rafael Smoking Ban, Strictest In The Nation, Goes Into Effect

San Rafael Smoking Ban, Strictest In The Nation, Goes Into Effect

Commented Nov 23, 2013 at 22:41:55 in Business

“In many ways, the government is becoming too powerful. The thing about apartments is that there are other people living in the same building as you. Therefore, they can smell the smoke, which is harmful to their health. Especially if there are young children or people with respiratory problems nearby, as I said. It doesn't matter whether or not you consider it your home. You are sharing it with others, therefore to be courteous you should respect others.”

California Smoking Ban Would Prohibit People From Smoking Inside Their Own Homes

Commented Nov 23, 2013 at 19:25:49 in San Francisco

“Exactly, I am tired of hearing smokers complain about smoking bans. The habit is far beyond nasty! If you own your home, you should have the right to smoke in your home. But if you live in an apartment, condo, multi-family house, and the like, you need to realize that it's not your property. So if a smoking ban is imposed, you shouldn't complain, since other people live there and have to suffer from your smoke. It is incredibly annoying that some people only think of themselves.”

“Personally I think this is a good idea. I would hate to live in an apartment and have to smell someone's smoke. It's disgusting. Not only that, but it's harmful to all of us, especially those of us with respiratory issues. What really agitates me is when smokers try to defend their nasty habit by saying things like, "If I want to smoke, I can. The government shouldn't tell me what to do", and such. Just because you don't mind smelling your smoke, it doesn't mean others feel the same way.”

sjford on Nov 23, 2013 at 22:17:33

“Yes but the government shouldn't get to overreach and tell you what to do in the privacy of your own home. And I don't care if it's an apartment, when you live there you consider it your own home.”

This Restaurant Gives A 50 Percent Discount If You Turn Off Your Phone

“Despite the fact that I am a lover of technology, I think this is a great idea for restaurants, especially high-end establishments. But perhaps it can apply to fast food places too. People are spending too much time glued to their phones, and not enough on socializing with others. While I don't agree that people are completely antisocial, I do agree that we are all getting closer and closer to being such. I like using my phone at restaurants too, I find it relaxing, but not every single minute I'm there. Disconnecting from technology for a little while every now and then is always a good thing.”

If they are going to be foolish, stupid, rude, inhumane - call it what you want - to do what they did, they deserve every bit of what happened to them. Anyone who took part in essentially making this family's celebration turn into hell should be ashamed of themselves. People really need to acquire some decency. This whole event is appalling.”

Jordan Bennett Suspended From School For Pretend Finger Gun

Commented Oct 2, 2013 at 18:47:35 in Crime

“Wow, just wow. This nation is becoming too paranoid about guns, and is losing its common sense. Now, if the kid brought a toy gun to school, then that would warrant taking it away, but not a suspension. But all he did was point his finger like a gun. That is going too far, especially since he was a young boy. And, it's not like he was shooting his teacher. People need to stop being so paranoid and idiotic, because people are going to find a way to, if they desire, shoot someone, or in the case of terrorists, make a scene. We can't focus on small things like this, it is just a waste of time. Being a high school student myself, I can see that there are countless other issues that should be addressed but haven't been concerning teenagers, yet this kid gets punished for making a gun gesture? That goes to show that we are focusing on the wrong issues, the wrong people.”

He should've known that someone could think of it as offensive. That's why I don't post anything like that, it's just too risky with the way things are going. No, he shouldn't have been in jail, that's too extreme.”

“Well first of all, he should've known better than to post this comment, especially considering the fact that the Sandy Hook, Boston Bombing, and other tragedies have resulted in harsher punishments for saying/posting something threatening. You barely even have to watch/read/listen to the news to know that. Just like the way airport security was tightened after 9/11. As other comments have said, in this day and age, you can't say things like that. It infuriates me when I hear my peers (I'm a teenager by the way) make jokes about tragedies. It's not funny at all, they should be ashamed of themselves for saying things like that. I bet the families affected don't think the jokes are funny.

However, I don't believe this situation should have been blown out of proportion like it was. Sure it is wrong to post something like this guy did, but not worthy of an eight-year prison sentence. Or for that matter, a one-year prison sentence, in my opinion. That's another issue that I've seen a lot lately: overreacting.”

Afterall, whether you like it or not, that's how business goes. As a comment below said "Amazon is in the money business, not the sympathy business". That's very true. No, I don't like it either, but that's how things work in this country.”

“True: Here's the way I look at it -- almost all TV options are are through some type of paid service and every time a star dies, there's some type of tribute -- which we are subsidizing to some degree. IMO, id it bothers you, turn off the TV, or don't buy the DVDs....if you want to see your favorite star memorialized, go for it. In either case, it's a choice.”
