Facebook Collects Tons of Data and Still Can't Cut It for Advertisers

Commented Nov 19, 2012 at 19:48:15 in Technology

“I get it. The IPO has made it a matter of survival to 'monetize' and prove value to Wall Street and Shareholders. Your point is taken: Stop the mad scramble and throwing everything (i.e., 'data') at the problem and recognize the incredible value in what you have! The value is there, as you state, Jure. Facebook should get smart about making good use (i.e., relevance!) of the data that is there and bring value to all stakeholders. Then the monetary (proven value, revenue) outcomes will follow.”

Paradox of Online Influence

Commented Jun 27, 2012 at 12:58:19 in Business

The point that strikes me is the revelation that influence tools, such as they are, drive the inwardly-directed need for self-actualization. So I really agree with the hypothesis that many of us are seeking out like-minded peers on social networks. For marketing purposes, the power of self-actualization can be harnessed for good! A brand strives to create community, a group with common feelings toward and about it. So brand self-actualization as a 'popularity contest' is, perhaps, a valid goal! Out of that community emerges the brand evangelists, champions, and word-of-mouth popularity that will drive revenue. Focus on building the community. The accuracy of artificial measurement of the power of it will have to catch up.”

Social Media Experts With 5-7 Years of Experience?

It's a grand observation! What resonates most is that a 'listing' for so many opportunities (such as they are) begin with '5-7 years of social media experience.' I completely agree with your observation that someone with traditional skills and reasonable experience with social media tools may be the best candidate. Brilliant!”

“Thanks Mark. Little things like this aggravate me, since we have such high unemployment and these HR departments don't even understand the job they are hiring for.”
