“That is why she was set on fire, the threat of a death penalty. So basically your going to cause more dead rape victims who can't tell anyone who raped them.”
OhioYippieHippie on Oct 24, 2013 at 14:43:09
“Really? I never thought of it that way. hmmm”
I1guy on Oct 24, 2013 at 09:39:50
“You sound like an Indian male who has raped his share of women and gotten away with it.”
Criticalthinkingtime on Oct 24, 2013 at 06:16:00
“You keep making excuses about the death penalty being what causes the rapists to kill their victims. What punishment do you think the rapist would find acceptable and worth in their eyes the time for their crime?”
“The fire comes from threatening men with the death penalty. They need a cultural change. Teach empathy.”
sanchopoor on Oct 24, 2013 at 13:29:30
“NoBigGovDuh: Your premise that men are threatened with the death penalty in India does not hold water in this case as the rape was committed by "three Indian youths". If you recall the earlier rape case(the one on the bus, where the junior of the group(17yrs) was the most zealot on the attack) the minor was spared the death penalty even though IMO he deserved it the most or at least equally with the looser adults.”
Double Bird on Oct 24, 2013 at 10:59:19
“Really? Your theory is that if there was no death penalty they would not have killed her? What an ignorant comment.”
DejzaVoo on Oct 24, 2013 at 10:00:02
“Again. You don't "teach" empathy. You have it or you don't. Death penalty? Are you trying to tell me they are scared? Obviously not scared enough since they keep on raping. You can't really TEACH a person that these things are wrong. Its not like speeding, which is wrong because the law says it is. Its a moral wrong. Its wrong in the fiber of what we are, what we have evolved into as a species. Its wrong in most religions if you swing that way, its wrong in most cultures. Its just wrong. We all know its wrong, and they know its wrong, they just don't care. They do it anyway. This is not about "empathy" or "education" its about the prevalence of bad genes being passed on and on. Are you going to tell me these boys that raped this girl don't have sisters? Mothers? Grandmothers? Are you going to tell me that the women in their life brought them up without teaching them to care about others? That they were never told or shown that rape is wrong? Of course they know its wrong. They. Don't. Care. How do you teach empathy to someone that does not care?”
“What did they expect when they started threatening men with the death penalty for rape?
You get the calculation that they need to prevent the witness from ever identifying them, you put their life against the womens and guess what happens.
They need cultural change and not militant feminists demanding death.”

“The fact that some in India are calling for the death penalty for these types of crimes is a reaction to the pervasiveness and severity of the rape culture in parts of the country. It is a desperate attempt at deterrence. Much as I'm tempted with particular situations, I am opposed to the death penalty, but I can understand the strong feelings. Further, the people who would do such things would also be likely to kill their victim either for a thrill, a sense of power, or just to avoid incrimination even if there were no death penalty.”
Criticalthinkingtime on Oct 24, 2013 at 06:06:27
“So if you were raped you would would not side with a militant threat against the one the one or ones that raped you. You would be okay with the way it's handled here in the US.”
mmikeman02 on Oct 24, 2013 at 05:34:14
“Get real. Men have been killing women in India long before now.”
Shannon Devon McKee on Oct 24, 2013 at 03:14:10
“Oh sure, blame the victims and those who are trying to stop these crimes!”

“They are louder, and some of us have hearing sensitivity issues at certain frequencies , common in western culture because of loud radios men tend to listen to, and it is a shooting pain that is caused.
So yeah, but even white girls are picking up the bad habit so it is not a racial thing it seems to be a learned behavior from somewhere.
“When someone preaches against your existence I don't find this to be extreme at all.”
priceofliberty on Apr 26, 2012 at 10:39:25
“I can't relate. No one has preached against my existence.
I do know what is like to be refused communion, and been told I'm going to hell though. And i find this to be extreme. I haven't vandalized those Churches.”

“This is exactly what the bigots want. Violence to portray gays as a threat to society. We can't let ourselves fall into their trap by praising this kind of thing. This is what they do, let's be the good guys here.”

“Wrong, but nothing compared to what the hate groups would do.”
Junius Gallio on Apr 25, 2012 at 22:25:15
“Extreme? No--but it is still wrong, and it is still counter-productive.”
“Your liking of the death penalty creates a aggressive society that causes more murders.”
JustinAddison on Apr 26, 2012 at 04:30:19
“Actually, a huge mega-statistical study a few years back showed that application of the death penalty REDUCES the number of murders, though this reality is somehow never mentioned in forums where people have an anti death penalty agenda.”
“The story says nothing like what you are accusing them of.”

“just as an update on the backgrounds.
The mother of the child that was killed did have another child taken from her by social services. This was the result of her own family reporting abuse to authorities. She now has had another removed by social services as well as the one brutally killed by her boyfriend. I have no further information on him other than both of them being accused of heavy drug and alcohol use.”
jel3800 on Apr 25, 2012 at 21:39:19
“You are correct, but then the report offers very little background information. I am assuming where the further details will go but I am afraid I will be close in the end.
How bout you and I both try to keep an eye on the details as they come out – I will apologize to you if proven wrong.”
“How is it first degree if they do not know if there was a motive?”
Karen StovallStringer on Apr 28, 2012 at 20:57:35
“Motives are not necessary to prove first degree murder. Well, except on TV. If you want, I can give you several motives beginning with he was jealous of the baby because he took up too much of his girlfriend's attention and he wanted it all for himself. Or, as his alleged cousin said, he is a mean druggie. When he's on drugs, likes to hurt people and this child was the only one available. I'm thinking the legal system doesn't have to prove anything besides the facts Jarrod was there, Michael was there, no one else was there and Michael was dead from blunt force trauma to the head.”
“He needs to get off his butt and teach for a year on the south side for a year. NO ONE should be allowed to run a school district, or even shape policy unless they have actually taught "At Risk" kids for a few years!”
