“It's due to the difficulties in establishing alignment the more divergent two strands are. There are different algorithms to do this type of matching, but basically they all face the same problem -- when do you consider a sequence to have a substitution vs an insertion/deletion when the sequences are very dissimilar to begin with.
You will likely find this same pattern if you compare any group of closely-related species to more distant relations.”
flipacoin on Dec 10, 2013 at 12:12:49
“Thank you Noble for actual conversation unlike others. Anyway, since the genomes of the three species I speak of has had their entire genome sequenced, no alignment is necessary. Subs are much more simple because they don't involve the protein sequencing portions that indels does...therefore the huge disparity of the theorized mouse/human divergence of ten to one. Shouldn't the divergence from chimps have the same lopsided subs to indel ratio?”
“So you're saying that if I treat someone differently because of their skin color, not because I think they're inferior, but because I just don't like people who look like that for whatever reason, that's NOT racism? That makes no sense. It's your actions, that define the word, not your intent.
In any case, isn't putting down the way someone walks, talks, or dances based on their skin color a way of implying that someone is inferior? That would seem to challenge your assumption that "nobody on earth" treats white people differently.”

“"So you're saying that if I treat someone differently because of their skin color, not because I think they're inferior, but because I just don't like people who look like that for whatever reason, that's NOT racism?"
If you want I can define several different forms of racism or discrimination. Racism comes from the word race. If you discriminate based on someone's race/ethnicity/looks etc that is racism. What I was trying to point out some blacks dislike and discriminate against blacks not because they don't like the color of their skin or how they look but because of their historic treatment at the hands of white europeans. Historically, it is a well known fact that colored people from India, Africa and America were stunned by the "fairer" skin and welcomed them with open arms. Over time, Europeans colonized and enslaved entire countries and wrote volumes about how colored people were inferior to the white race. So historically, colored people have not thought of whites as inferior. The rage against the white race (which is wrong) is because of historical treatment. Vengeance is very much a part of human behavior so even though it is racism (so to speak) it is misdirected retaliation rather than feeling of superiority.
I have lived in US, Europe, India and middle east and trust me, NOBODY thinks of whites as "inferior". Different yes, inferior no.”

“If you throw stones at me based on the color of my skin, I don't care what your rationale is -- you're racist. Just because you claim it's because of something that happened before I was born with people I never knew doesn't make it any less so.”
spartanladkenny on Dec 7, 2013 at 02:42:18
“What you're pointing out is prejudice. Racism has a power dynamic as well as superiority complex associated with it. Any form of discrimination or violence against anybody is wrong. However, racism also has various faces. Nobody on earth treats white people differently because they think whites are "inferior" to them. On the other hand, whites have historically (even now) treated colored people as inherently inferior. When it comes to blacks there is prejudice based on past experience and history. You can plainly refer to it as "racism" but it isn't in the true sense of the word. Not all discrimination is racist. Germans hated jews because of racism. Palestinians hate Israelis not necessarily because of their religion or race but because of their conflict over land.”
“They're only going to use them retroactively against people they decide to target. If in 10 or 20 years the government doesn't like what you're doing they'll dig out decades' worth of files on you and comb it for anything they can use. The Nazis and the Soviets WISH they had access to this kind of data.”

“I feel sorry for you, if you really knew what happened inside the U.S and how unsafe and unstable we really are right now. China is mopping the floor with our Counter Intelligence right now and we aren't sitting off the coast of China for no reason right now; nor are they showing off nuclear subs for no reason. Everyday we spent worrying about Russia in the Cold War was another day that China infiltrated us deeper, we didn't even know this until 1995 when a random Chinese man brought in a top secret U.S document for the W88 mini nuclear warhead. That case has never been solved as the investigators on the case were killed on September 11th 2001 by the "plane" (obviously a missile in the pictures) that hit the Pentagon in the exact room at the exact time. A Chinese double agent Katrina Leung was discovered stealing secrets from two of the best F.B.I agents in California in 2003. Countless Russian spies have been pulled out of the U.S as well but I think I've made my point; the U.S is not some fantasy safe zone, the U.S can be broken and crumble just like anything else but we rely on the ideas of great Americans to help us remain intact. These NSA revelations are not a good omen for the U.S, and Snowden is far from a patriot.”

“BEWARE...Those superficial beings who publicly espouse "family values" are the same people who represent the interests of those who place profits well above the health, safety and general welfare of the people. Their goal is to have their captives echo their agenda even when it's not in the captive member's best interest.
