“Those people who are fortunate enough to just travel abroad will learn the various differences (both good and bad) between our country and other nations. In many ways, Europe is ahead of the U.S. in several areas with care of the environment leading the way. Taxes are much higher, but with it comes free tuition for college, free health care, a low crime rate, better infrastructure, and friendly people. Those people who think that America leads the world in almost every category are in for a culture shock. If more people were able to travel, American politicians would have more trouble being elected and re-elected because in Europe, the governments are afraid of the people whereas here the people are afraid of the government.”

“You forgot those who own stock in the coal companies and those workers who depend upon those jobs for their livelihood. The first of these just don't care and the second group are just looking for work. The first group pays for lobbyists to further their cause and protect their investments with no concern for the future while the second ignore the warnings because they aren't qualified to do anything else. We are the victims of both.”

“Any reliable chemist will tell you point blank that there is no such thing as "clean coal." Yes, there is a cost for cleaning up American industries and the pollution they are responsible for, but wouldn't you rather live and be able to breathe than go to the bank with your profits? It's rapidly coming down to just that.”

Thomas J Gassett on May 28, 2014 at 15:48:57

“OK, there is less dirty coal. BTW China is builidng three hundred new coal fired plants a year. Why ... because it's cheap. The question I have, is how will making our energy cost more, do anything but make liberals feel like they've done something. Personally, I think the Left wants the arguement, and is not all that interested in real change.”

“Republicans sit back and cut funding for every program that they can except for the Military and then when problems develop from underfunding and understaffing, not to mention oversight and corruption, they can then come back and propose privatization which is what they wanted to begin with. Please tell me where privatization or lack of oversight has resulted in anything good in this country. If Republicans have their way, everything in this nation will be privatized with no regulations and no oversight and left to fall victim to greed and corruption. That's their plan.”

“This is the beginning of the end for these "climate change deniers" who are going to be forced to admit that "something is happening." As the price of beef from Texas and the Midwest states begins to soar, the price of bread goes out of sight because of dead wheat crops, fruits and veggies become scarce from California, and people run out of water to drink, attitudes will change. If Republicans continue in their denial, people will begin to realize that they're not only out of touch with reality, but that they're bad for this country's future. The problem is that after all this has happened, it may be too late for the rest of us and our grandchildren, after all, nothing is more important in America than PROFITS even if it means saving our planet.”

Ron Booth on May 25, 2014 at 12:46:46

“No the hard core deniers will continue to claim its just naturally occurring phenomenon or an act of Gawd to punish us for one sin or another. Darn few of the deniers actually deny that weather patterns are changing, they are just denying that the 7 billion humans inhabiting the and their fossil fuel burning over the last 100 or so years has anything to do with the atmospheric CO2 skyrocketing from the stable 250ppm it has been at since the end of the last ice age to over 400 ppm just since the dawn of the industrial/fossil fuel age.”

“Those same Republicans who are criticizing Obama for this mess are the same ones who sent us into two wars with lies and then cut funding for virtually everything except for defense, which is still their sacred cow. After all, we have to protect those multi-national, global corporations financial interests in several countries and we do that under the illusion of patriotism and selling that to our soldiers so they will give their lives and bodies for these interests.”

“If we had a series of storms, according to the Republicans, it would be Obama's fault. Never mind that they've tried cutting funding for just about everything including the VA and our Embassies security. Then when Bengazi happened, it was all Obama's fault. This bunch of Republicans haven't cooperated on anything positive since Obama was elected which has made things ten times worse on several fronts and yet it's all his fault. “Ahhh, once again the latter day father of "smear campaigns" strikes again. The Republicans "southern strategy" of smears, lies and fear was begun by the late Lee Atwater back in the day and Karl Rove is the modern day version of Atwater. The philosophy is if you tell enough lies, some of them will "stick" with gullible and uninformed voters and they found a gold mine in the deep south. Now, Rove continues with this strategy nationwide in the hopes that it will work on voters elsewhere as well. Shame is, it will with some. If Republicans don't cheat, they can't hope to win with their agenda and philosophy for the nation. Educate yourselves and reject people like Rove.”

“With the American labor pool aging and people having fewer children, immigration reform is critical to the U.S. remaining competitive in the global economy. This is an opportunity to for the democrats to take the lead on this issue and defeat this Republican scourge that has gridlocked our government and prevented this nation from progressing beyond the near economic collapse that the Republicans under Bush nearly brought about. The Democrats need to also get out and vote because gerrymandering and voter suppression by these Republicans will make it harder to win.”

“Every generation has leaders and doubters and history will judge Gore as the lone voice of reason in a jungle of stupidity and doubt fueled by greed, ignorance and hatred. Every day the evidence mounts that we are destroying our planet and those motivated by greed still manage to cloak a veil of doubt over gullible people's minds to prevent any action being taken to insure our survival as a people and a planet with no thought as to where they're going to spend all that money when there's no planet left to spend it on. The most insane thing about all this is that many are willing to take that chance despite what science clearly shows. BTW, Gore's personal possessions and habits are irrelevant to this issue or should be and it should not be a political issue either. It should be one of survival.”

“To show disdain for Cantor simply shows how far to the right this insane Tea Party has become. It's mind boggling to consider that this bunch would consider Cantor too liberal for them considering his history of supporting Paul Ryan's budget and the unfair cuts that the Republicans have supported along with his stance on most of the Republican Right's agenda. It shows just how dangerous this movement has become for our country and why we need to defeat them in 2014 and again in 2016.”

“Unfortunately this issue will resolve itself over time but the result will probably be catastrophic for all of us. By the time we all experience food shortages and insanely high prices many will change their minds.. For the remaining doubters, astronomically high bills for repairs and reconstruction due to tornadoes, floods, hurricanes and wildfires will cause them to begin to think. Corporations will be the last to be impacted by this because they will profit off high construction costs and high food prices but others will suffer, but ultimately, costs associated with these disasters brought about by severe climate change will change minds after everything else has failed. Of course the politicians will do a dance around it and try to pretend the evidence wasn't there although their guilt will be that they didn't admit it and do something about it. It's going to frustrating for the rest of us to watch this play out knowing that the evidence and warnings were there all along.”

LESadowski on May 11, 2014 at 16:53:44

“I hope you're wrong. I fear you won't be. The average person, and of course, the poorest of us, will pay the greatest cost, but that won't matter. We're all expendable and we made the biggest mistake: somebody voted him in and somebody continues to vote in people who act as he does -- in defense of business.

Please don't misunderstand. I'm not anti business, but at some point we have to do something to try to help ourselves. What would it hurt to really develop alternative energies just to see if we could make a positive change to climate? It would hurt big oil, a well established business with many millionaires and billionaires not willing to help or find a fix to what's apparently happening to our world.”
Now That's Rich

Now That's Rich

Commented May 9, 2014 at 11:08:34 in Business

“The conservative ideology that the rich inherently deserve to dominate and rule over America is dependent on income inequality that defines oligarchy. A recent study reveals that Republicans have won the class war for the wealthy and that the devastating income equality plaguing America is here to stay and it will get much worse; if that is possible. Republicans are doing their best to see it does get worse and between Republican budget proposals and threats to hold the debt limit hostage for steep cuts to Medicare, education, Social Security, and safety nets to give the wealthy more tax cuts, the rich will continue getting richer as the poor get poorer until there is a permanent underclass barely surviving the next round of Republican austerity to “balance the budget” and “eliminate the deficit.” The recent SCOTUS ruling on campaign finance was the final nail in the concept of democracy and representation by the people in America.”

“Here's the national asset clock, to go along with the "debt" clock:

http://mikenormaneconomics.blogspot.com/2014/01/when-they-try-to-scare-you-with.html

Also, the total deficit = how many dollars are in the private sector, to a penny.

Public Sector - 17 T = Private Sector + 17 T

If the total deficit is too large, that means someone in the private sector has too much money. Who might that be?”

“No Republicans, the "distractions" are Bengazi, Birthers, death panels, etc. Do we ever wonder just why it is that we, the U.S., are one of the few major industrialized nations in the world that continues to consider major climate change as a "hoax"? I think it's time we asked that question as well as WHY that's the case. When you follow the money trail you will unfortunately find the answer. Our very survival as a people and a planet depends upon us ridding ourselves of these right wing nutcases who have sold us and our grandchildren out for big money and could doom our planet to extinction. This is NO Ta hoax folks.”
