Joe Lieberman and Tiger Woods: The "Self-Insured"
Commented Dec 17, 2009 at 21:43:13 in Living
“I don't know about Lieberman, but "his ilk" somehow think poor people are stealing from them because their taxes will contribute toward medical benefits for the poor. As if the robber barons of this country have not already built their wealth on the backs of hard working stiffs. But it's "their" money. For a real laugh about how screwed the values of "the ilk" are, listen to Laura Ingraham invoke the Holocaust poem but insert "the rich" and "property owners" in place of "Jews" and other persecuted people. So because they're rich, these unfortunate souls feel persecuted. Awww.”

Why the Washington Post Was Right to Publish Sarah Palin
Commented Dec 09, 2009 at 15:18:16 in Media
“I must respectfully disagree. For the Washington Post to give Sarah Palin, a science denier in that she believes the world was created in seven days 6,000 years ago, the same forum it would give a prominent scientist is absolutely ridiculous. While she thinks the science of global warming, is a matter of dispute, most scientists agree that the evidence of global climate change is indisputable. CBS just had a promo, or maybe it was an entire program, on the warming of Greenland. Some people who read her op-ed will believe it because it was in the Washington Post, just as they believed in weapons of mass destruction because Judith Miller wrote articles about them in the NYTimes.”

“How will the Tea Party movement bring America "back to its roots?" It's heavily linked to the GOP, which in eight years brought America away from its traditions against nation-building and spying on its citizens, just to name two assaults Bush-Cheney took against our national values. Obama is trying to clean up some of the mess those two made; why have Republicans not given him more than 10 months to accomplish this? Because they fear if he is successful they will not regain the Oval Office for many years to come?

“If you have had seen the tea parties in any other light than what the Media is covering, you would know that there are only small portions of the movement that are linked to the GOP (part of the 20% people who think Bush actually did a good job), but the movement as a whole is not.
Most of the people I know that consider themselves Tea Partiers were Republicans in 2000 and voted for Bush, maily because when Bush and Gore debated, Bush argued against foreign intervention and nation building. They then voted for Kerry in 2004 to oppose the undeclared War and Bushs' spending policies.”

Will The Unemployment Disaster Be Obama's Katrina?
Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 08:35:27 in Politics
“FDR created new jobs with the CCC, WPA and other like agencies. Men who could not otherwise find work joined up, built roads, bridges and parks, which added to the US infrastructure and had some extra money to send home. Obama could do this and add building rail lines to the list, as the railroads took up some of the lines years ago. We need rail travel again. Of course conservatives would have a collective stroke, but another New Deal would get the country back to work.”

“Indeed, the teabaggers are blaming Obama for a financial mess that their guys, Bush-Cheney, created, Where were their voices from 2001 to 2008? Nowhere. The Republicans were in lockstep and the GOP Congress abdicated their duty to provide a check and balance on the out-of-control unitary executives.”

“Honestly. Where do you people live? This was all caused by the housing crisis which started with Carter and continued til 2007. This is not a repub/dem thing. This is a government thing. Just like SS and medicare. Owning a house became a right, not a privledge. Housing prices got over-inflated because people kept buying and buying and buying when they couldn't afford. Our leader, both repub and dem did nothing about it. They were not going to put their neck on the line "taking away" something. It is the same problem with SS and Medicare. At least give the Bush administration credit for being the first administration since Carter to realize in 2002 or 2003 that this thing had the potential to blow up. Good ole Barney Fife wanted nothing to do with it. If anything, look a little closer to your own party.”

The Kennedy Assassination: New Details About the Transfer of Power
Commented Nov 03, 2009 at 15:41:42 in Books
“You are ignorant, all right, if you are talking about Kennedy. Kennedy sent CIA and military advisors, not any major troop efforts, to Vietnam. It was indeed Johnson who "jumped in" and expanded the operation to a war. You can blame Johnson and Nixon for most of those lives lost in Vietnam, not Kennedy.”
A New Wrinkle in the JFK Assassination Story
Commented Oct 30, 2009 at 22:35:29 in Books
“A recent History Channel show on the JFK assassination replayed interviews of eyewitnesses done in 1988, 25 years after the assassination. Several people said they perceived at least one shot from the grassy knoll. One man said a shot came from the picket fence on the knoll behind him and whizzed past his ear. How could a pristine bullet go through both JFK and Gov. Connelly and come through undamaged? The Warren Commission theory of the single bullet has been challenged many times, including by well-known pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht.

AP Asks If Obama Is "Obnoxiously Articulate"
Commented Oct 15, 2009 at 19:56:31 in Media
“What an ABSURD question! Shouldn't EVERY American have the ability to communicate properly in English? Perhaps the rightist slant of the AP is showing. After all, Bush and Palin are notorious for their extremely poor communication skills, except for the times when someone else writes speeches and books for Palin. How could the ability to master English be obnoxious? Isn't that what public school systems are SUPPOSED to do? No wonder more and more newspapers are abandoning the AP.”

Sexual Harassment Be Damned! Here's Why Dave Won't Drive Away Women
Commented Oct 05, 2009 at 17:05:28 in Media
“It wasn't harassment, at least by all accounts, because the romantic attention was not unwanted (as in the case of Bill O'Reilly's pursuit of Andrea Mackris). True, the boss sleeping with underlings is not wise. But the man never went anywhere but work! This boss-underling relationship happens more often than anyone would like, but the women were adults, Dave at the time wasn't married and there are no indications that he harassed the women or advanced them because they were sleeping with him. He has never held himself up as holier than thou, as numerous Republicans did during the Clinton-Monica debacle (and then turned around and did the same thing, or worse). He is an entertainer, not an elected official. And most importantly, he is a crime VICTIM! Dave will not drive this woman away.”

“Perhaps this joker is confusing "America" and "Australia," the latter of which began as a penal colony, which the USA never was. Many Americans' ancestors saved for years to get here; few to none were "thrown away" by his or her native country. And while I agree that the words of slowtono are nonsensical, I am deducing something negative about the U.S. entertainment industry. slowtono forgets entertainment is one of the few industries in which the U.S. can claim some superiority. And back to the subject, I agree with Maher that apologizing for wrongs done is never a bad thing to do. It's high time, America has had its share of wrongdoing, such as slavery, stealing land from Native Americans, interning Japanese-Americans during World War II, Jim Crow, the My Lai massacre, invading Iraq on trumped-up intelligence, Guantanamo, etc., etc.”

“Indeed. When Rush Limbaugh called then-13-year-old Chelsea Clinton the "White House dog," the Clintons ignored him in favor of protecting their daughter, who turned out wonderfully well: no underage drinking charges, no out-of-wedlock babies, no other scandals. Though David Shuster of MSNBC claimed Hillary "pimped out" fully adult Chelsea during the campaign, the fact is, she was an ADULT. However, during last year's campaign, that could not be said of ANY of Palin's children, whom she relentlessly "pimped out" as campaign props. Now she is claiming huffiness that her daughter (Bristol, not Willow, the unwed mother advocating abstinence, which failed to work in her case; some endorsement!) is criticized. Well, sorry, Sarah, but you have to take the criticism with the praise.”

What White Supremacists Are Saying Today About Holocaust Museum Gunman
Commented Jun 10, 2009 at 19:56:02 in Politics
“You'd be surprised how fear is marketed to people in rural areas. Many of them think crazy people are going to break into their homes, so they have guns in their homes (sometimes all over their homes. Trust me on this). Obama was correct in saying such folks "cling to guns and religion," but was heavily criticized for that comment. Now we know that some of these folks are the white supremicists we all need to fear.”

“I agree with this. New York demonstrated the best of what America is and can be after 9/11 by going on with their lives when no one knew what was happening next, but having your fellow citizens around for reality testing must have been some consolation. You could see with your own eyes that your fellow citizens weren't deranged killers. This isn't always the case out in the country, when hate speech advanced by some media commentators remains unrebutted by daily contact with one's sane, reasonable neighbors. People can get pretty weird out there.”
