People who are generally in good health are going to be forced to pay & pay high premiums for years, even when they never need to see a doctor or go to the hospital. And when they do get a cold or the flu, they can go to the walk-in clinic and for about 30 bucks can see the doc who prescribes a med and they're back to normal in a few days....
Believe it or not, there are millions of people who could go for years with no health problems or just minor stuff that can be taken care of for a low cost. Not everyone needs expensive health care all the time, so why should everyone have to pay for expensive insurance that covers every little thing? For healthy people it makes sense to just pay out of pocket when they have a minor health issues, and then get a catastrophic health insurance policy in case something really serious happens with their health.
Health insurance should be like auto insurance I don't file a claim every time I need to get an oil change or get new tires for the car....routine/preventive maintenance isn't why we have auto insurance. We should not expect health insurance to pay for routine/preventive maintenance on our bodies either. The government should just leave us alone -- we can take care of ourselves.”

“Plain Jane. Nov 29,13
Excuse me comparing humans to a car isn't quite acceptable. What difference does it make if you have The Affordable Care Act or a Catastrophic Health plan?
And remember we are not cars and a smallest fact or a routine visit can discover a serious illness and a small mole can mean you have cancer.
Maybe you should go more often to see a doctor you'd catch you cancer real early then and be cured. One never knows when you will be sick either. You cannot run your body like a car in slow gear.

“You would be bankrupt after your first serious health crisis if you paid as you go.
You have auto insurance in case of an accident that causes injury to yourself or to Others and… to repair your car over having to buy another one.”
eAmondale on Nov 28, 2013 at 21:42:48
“Can you cite your source for your claim "People who are generally in good health are going to be forced to pay & pay high premiums for years..."
Secondly, your argument is the core reason why we decided as a nation to address one main reason for soaring premiums and that's the cost of caring for irresponsible folks that don't pay into the system yet still use it when they become sick. And usually it's when they've become very sick when preventive care could have avoided high-priced care later in life.
Lastly, many insurance policies have preventive care incentives that actually PAY CASH to clients that make use of the preventive care procedures. You actually argue, "We should not expect health insurance to pay for routine/preventive maintenance on our bodies either." Amazing that you have it exactly backwards from reality. BTW, your government is US, your fellow citizens that choose to address major issues affecting us all on a daily basis instead of leaving it to market forces that care not one whit for you or anybody else.”

This, coupled with all the doctors who are leaving Government Medicare means little choice for seniors.”

“The one thing the president doesn't understand is health insurance does not equal health care. The 30 million people who were uninsured before ObamaCare were getting health care when they needed it. No one goes without treatment or a doctor in this country. The way the president talks, you'd think people were dying in the streets for want of health care.
The problem with ObamaCare is that it's all based on "insurance." You don't need insurance to get health care or to pay for health care. There are many people who still pay their doctor directly for his or her services -- it's called "self-pay." The way you pay for most services in this country.”
peacekitten on Nov 14, 2013 at 14:30:05
“45,000 people a year die for lack of proper health care. simply going to the emergency room does not count as "health care." people DO die in the streets for lack of health care. even one is too many. the swiss have a system of universal health care coverage that is very much like what the ACA is doing. it's dispensed through a system of private health insurance companies in partnership with the government. by law, their health insurance carriers are "non-profits," which does NOT mean that they aren't allowed to make money. there are very, very, very, very, VERY few people who can "self-pay" for things like brain surgery, chemotherapy, cardiac incidents. ”

Cut our losses on ObamaCare website, repeal the whole thing and the accrued savings will do it.

“The House of Representatives asked the president to postpone the implementation of ObamaCare for a year -- they were trying to send a warning that the program was not ready.
Too bad Pres.Obama didn't take their advice. The failed website is already costing 4 times its original estimate of $93million. The costs are now at $400 million and going up, now that people are working overtime on it. Common sense tell us the president is throwing good money after bad. If the cost to re-build the web site tops out at over a Billion$$$, taxpayers are going to be really upset.”
“I am comfortable with the value the free market places on my doctor's services. Everyone is entitled to fair payment for their work. A medical doctor is one of the most highly respected occupations, and rightfully so. People in the medical profession deserve to be well-paid for their services...their patients & clients value their knowledge, skill and professionalism. That applies whether they're treating cancer or common colds.
And, by the way, profit has everything to do with quality --- when a company or self-employed individual needs to compete with others offering the same goods and/or services, they will bring the best they can to the competitive marketplace in order to win customers. That's why you'll always find quality workmanship and/or services in the competitive, profit-motive private sector...most especially in health care! This as opposed to government (which has no incentive to strive for quality.)”

They should have made it so that the fines started showing up in April 2014.”

Going all the way up the chain of command, any low, mid or even-high level managers would NOT have sanctioned such a ridiculous order without authorization from their chief executive, Pres. Obama.
Taking it out on a Park Ranger who was just following presidential orders is not smart... we can all agree on that.
But, what was REALLY not stupid... was to give the order to bring in all that heavy-duty iron fencing. It set up the perfect photo op...and now we have pictures of 80-yr-old veterans behind bars looking longingly at the memorial that was constructed in their honor. Wow... Stupid is as stupid does!”
