“You can't say you are self-sufficient when you rely on using and killing animals.”

“You can't say you are self sufficient when relying on GMO produced soy for your diet, food shipped from far away, or plastics to make your clothing and shoes.”

Leslie Witherspoon on Aug 6, 2012 at 15:05:07

“That's like saying you can't say you're self-sufficient by relying on and killing plants. Not everyone needs to be vegan to be green. We ALL rely on animals whether they are domestic or not to maintain the quality of our land, air, and water. We rely on each other.”

“We all pay into SS and Medicare so this is a moot point. We pay in for people before us, those after us pay in for us and on and on. Strawman argument. Plus, the childfree pay for public schools they will never send kids to, so what about that?”

robadeau on Jul 25, 2012 at 20:21:34

“They benefit from educated neighbors and future workers in so many ways it is something that shouldn't even have to be mentioned. That's what about that.”

D Pelletier on Jul 25, 2012 at 19:13:36

“When you need to go to a DR. do you want a well educated one? When you need a financial advisor to help you take care of all the money you saved by not having kids, you will want a well educated one. The military that protects our country no longer takes uneducated volunteers, with technology advancing at lightening speed we need people in the military with the education to keep up. A well educated student is an investment in our country and needed for national security. So yes, it IS your responsibility to help educate the children that are not yours. Also the more well educated a person is the higher their salary and the more money (to a certain point) they will pay forward to social security.”

“Actually, yeah they are. Retail jewelry stores have an insane mark-up. I had a diamond and platinum ring made for almost $5k. Went to sell it about 4 years later the place nearly laughed at me. They said the diamonds were worth about $50 and the platinum almost nothing. I took it to 3 places including a friend who is a jewelry designer and they told me all the same thing. In the end the resale value was about $400. Maybe would have been a bit more for gold in this day in age but not much. I'll never buy a piece of jewelry like that again.”
