“When I was at one meeting in Oxnard, I saw most of the speakers from the closure side are paid professionals with Keeper this and Keeper that organizations.
Then there are hundreds of SoCal folks who overwhelmingly were against closure. I spoke to one guy and he argues that it's because of the unfair burden it puts on fishermen when water pollution, climate change, and other issues are also a part of, if not the big part of what is happening with the ocean.
I may be wrong here, but if this were a democratic process, the MLPA would have been shut down a long time ago. Even the state of CA is not funding it--it's running on private special interest closure money.
And the science...best available...LOL...most of the answers given by the scientists are "we are not sure" but they pull numbers out of their hat. I left about half way through, not being able to take anymore. Besides, I have no dog in the fight...just a guest.
Kinda make me skeptical of the whole thing. But you folks would know better than everyone and can tell people what's good for them so what do I and the rest of SoCal public know... Please tell us what to think.”
