“Why hold Warren Buffet's feet to the fire? His job is not to fix things. Neither is Ariana's.
As for investing, most of Buffet's investments are "buy and hold", unlike the speculators, the short-sellers.
That is the real financial casino.
Blame the big corporations for sending Manufacturing jobs overseas. Blame the financial corporations
for "creative financing." Oh, there is enough blame to go around.
But there signs of "bottoming out" and "falling unemployment" is always last to respond.”

“As I have said before, and I witnessed this, the depression only worsened from 1929 until 1933,
and it was FDR and his WPA, his CCC, and all the other alphabet soup that foresaw an end to
the great depression, until the interference by the repubs in Congress. (we were repubs then)
Doing nothing was not an option.”

“Here's the unemployment figues for the great depression:
http://www.econreview.com/events/images/urdep.png
Unemployment stayed above 10% for 10 years, and there was a "recession within the depression" in 1938, where unemployment soared back up to 20%.
FDR's policies were horrendous. He maintained high trade barriers, installed expensive and draconian regulations and price controls on businesses, and raised taxes on profits. He made business people the scape goats, and seamingly did everything he could to make their lives miserable and the making of a decent profit difficult.”

“Warren Buffet did do something. He added to the stimulus package to the tune of billions of his
dollars. And in doing so, when those investments turned around, added to the value of Berkshire
Hathaway. This is what Warren Buffet does.
Please remember that three years elapsed after the crash of '29 before the turnaround. Three years
of bandaid remedies and tax cuts. IN 1929 WE HAD MANUFACTURING.
We had manufacturing, and credit cards were not even a glimmer in a banker's eye.
I agree the problems were not created overnight and will not go away quickly. And there is a
great need for the abolition of the pervasive attitude of instant gratification.”

Yes, the stock market recovered before FDR's election, but the New Deal delayed ECONOMIC recovery for 14 years ... and damn near destroyed our industrial base forever.
The only thing that saved our industrial base, after WWII, was that all our trade competitors had been bombed into rubble.
As the rest of the world rebuilt, we faced two crises -- one by Kennedy, the other by Reagan. Bost responded the aame way, in general, with specifics tailored to each crisis.
a) Both provided tax relief to business and (across-the-board) to individuals, stimulating both supply and demand. More money to create jobs, and more money for consumers to support thos jobs.
b) Neither increased taxes on the wealthy; both CUT taxes on the wealthy.
c) For both, tax relief was sent DIRECTLY to jobs creation in the PRIVATE sector. And in the same manner -- to new investments on production machinery.
Kennedy paid a direct 10% subsidy on all investments in new production machinery, Reagan spent no taxpayer dollars, and instead "accelerated" depreciation from 16 years to 5 years - companies got the exact same tax refund, but in 16 years instead of 5.
Obama should have done that. Pray.
