Governments Worldwide Are Losing The Battle Against Smartphone Theft

Governments Worldwide Are Losing The Battle Against Smartphone Theft

Commented Jan 23, 2014 at 09:49:16 in World

“I think the killswitch is a great idea to deter smart phone thefts. However, what would keep a crime suspect from enabling the same killswitch if his/her phone is seized by police during a criminal investigation? Smart phones have increasingly become a big part of crime scene evidence. If the suspect disables his/her phone, how will this affect forensic phone exams?”

“Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but it just looks like the guy was charged the sales tax for the "buy one" item and the "get one free" item. I've still had to pay the sales tax on free stuff I've gotten with coupons before, at Walmart and others. I don't see what the big deal is. This looks like a normal thing to me.”

butterflydee89 on Jul 26, 2013 at 10:52:38

“I live in Ohio and you always have to pay sales tax on items that are buy one get one free. Most of the time it states on the coupon that the consumer pays any applicable sales tax.”

“I know the daytime isn't magically stretched out longer or anything. It just feels like it lasts longer because we "saved" an hour of it for the evening activities instead having extra sunlight in the morning when we're all getting ready for work, school, etc. I guess it's just a matter of preference. I just prefer "saving" up my daylight and not having it get dark so early.”

beherenow54 on Mar 13, 2013 at 19:23:31

“Our children now wait at bus stops, etc., in the dark. It's dangerous and unnecessary. And all that nighttime light you enjoy is going to be suddenly snatched back when the clocks change back to standard time in the fall, which will make what should be a slow transition immediate. It will suddenly be dark at 4:30. Which is why more cases of SAD occur. It's not natural. We play around with the time when leaving it naturally changing is the best.”

“DST sucks at first, due to that initial loss of an hour. It's totally worth it after you get used to it, because you get more daytime and less nighttime."Fall Back"/"normal" time is just the opposite. It's great at first because of the extra hour of sleep and whatnot, but after awhile it's no fun when it gets dark out so early. I just hate driving home from work and it already be getting dark outside. It feels like it leaves little time to really enjoy doing things after a long workday.”

Lulu0418 on Mar 12, 2013 at 15:31:07

“I feel like the people who don't enjoy DST probably don't work a 9-5. Stay at homes, kids, etc. For the majority of the working class, it's awesome.”

beherenow54 on Mar 13, 2013 at 19:19:30

“The "daytime" part of the day is not "longer" because of DST. It's the same length--which naturally is increasing as we move toward summer. It started increasing after 12/21. We're just playing around with the time we set around those hours.”

blledob on Mar 12, 2013 at 18:09:03

“Sorry but the number of daylight hours doesn't change.”

Chris Brandstetter on Mar 12, 2013 at 15:33:12

“The "Daytime" part cannot be longer it is simply offset by 1 hour.”

Lulu0418 on Mar 12, 2013 at 15:28:11

“I agree. I look forward to DST every year. Love getting home and the sun still being out. Leaving the windows and doors opening, cooking dinner while it's still light out. Not having to run errands in the nighttime. I almost feel like it's silly to "fall back." Maybe we should stay on DST all year?”

I thought to myself, "There is NO WAY I would wear what is basically a colored burlap sack to the beach!" (to each her own though.) I wish I had seen some of these other designs though. To me, it looks like the Mormon ladies have the right idea on how to make trendy and modest swimwear that appeals to the masses!”

“Very touching video. One must also keep in mind that the story takes place in the context of a different culture than the U.S. and in a different era. Had I been the wife (present-day American chick), I wouldn't have been passive about the angry husband's outbursts and violent tendencies.

That being said, I think the message of this lovely animation is this-- life is short, you just don't know what you really have until it's gone, and you should ultimately cherish it. I believe the angry, frustrated, and often abusive husband realized this when it was almost too late, and his attempt to make up for his past transgressions was sincere.”

“Madam I understand you know nothing about the military but I will try to teach ,although it's not my strong point . There is protection for that part of the body . Body armour has it's on limitations ,at some point it will become burdensome and more of a liability than an asset . Our troops have the best protection money can buy . If you are in the direct path of these booby traps you will suffer regardless of how you are equipped . Booby traps or IED's as they are called today are the oldest of weapons ,they were very prolific during Viet Nam . We are very fortunate that our casualties have been very light in both Iraq and Afghanistan . It is time to come home .”

These Americans white, black, yellow or brown sign up to serve their country and know full well the ramifications in so doing. Nazis were white, Pol Pot was yellow, Idi Amin was black. So what? You want to blame America?”

Why Do Bananas Turn Brown In The Fridge?

Commented Mar 5, 2012 at 09:24:45 in Taste

“It's so hard to find the perfect yellow banana at the grocery store. They are always still somewhat green, at least here in Tennessee. What I do to get them ripe enough for banana pudding or just to eat them by themselves, is put them in a brown paper bag overnight. The next morning, those green bananas will be perfectly yellow!”

“Bravo, Dana! I had the same surgery done at 23 years old, and I do not regret it one bit. I have the BRCA2 gene, as does my mom. We discovered this after my mom had breast cancer at age 44. Thank God she is cancer-free now, but I saw what chemotherapy, numerous surgeries (luckily I only needed one), and the side-effects of lymph node removal did to her. I knew I needed to reduce my chances of that, and none of my loved ones--the people who TRULY matter--have second guessed me. I have received so much encouragement, and I hope you have the same. Bless you and your sister! (On a lighter note... One year after my surgery, I found a wonderful man who loves my new breasts. He didn't see my old ones that, before my surgery I learned were slightly deformed and full of cysts, so he doesn't know the difference anyway!)”

“Loved the story, Jackie! I had the same surgery and immediate implant reconstruction at 23 because my mom had an aggressive form of breast cancer at age 44, and we both tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation. Thank God she's ok now, but after seeing what chemo did to her, I didn't want to take any chances. The surgery was the best thing I have ever done, and it turns out that I had several small cysts that were developing in my breasts. They would have grown to be quite painful and would have eventually required surgery. You made a very bold decision, and you should be proud of yourself!”

Diagnosis of Eating Disorders in Older Women Increases as Awareness Grows

Commented Apr 19, 2012 at 11:07:31 in Healthy Living

“While it is sad to see anyone struggle with an eating disorder, this doesn't shock me at all. I know several upper middle class "yuppie" (sorry... can't think of a better way to describe them) women (some men do it too) in their mid to late 50s who I would describe as "drunkorexic." I always see them get plastered off their chardonnay, then the rest of the time they barely eat like birds. This type of thing is very unhealthy, and it should definitely be further examined by medical professionals.”
