11 Reasons To Love Costco That Have Nothing To Do With Shopping

11 Reasons To Love Costco That Have Nothing To Do With Shopping

Commented Nov 19, 2013 at 21:35:26 in Business

“I despise Costco with the intensity of ten thousand suns. Hand down, they have the rudest staff of any box store. Twice I tried paying with my credit card and their card reader wasn't reading my card's magnetic strip. The cashier's response was "well, I guess your out of luck today." To which I replied, "so you are going to let $500 walk out the door?" She said, "Sir, there is nothing I can do for you." The second time this happened, the cashier was worse. The manager saved the day both times, but barely. But the last straw was when a customer service person tried to charge me for two memberships (one for personal and one for business) rather than just switching my personal membership to a business membership. When I complained to the manager, she told me a customer service agent would never say this (i.e., she called me a liar), and that I misunderstood. When I asked her to change my personal account to a business account, she said "hold on" and went on to help other customers." I threw my membership card on the counter and told her to stick it up her privates and never returned to Cosco. If you notice, customer satisfaction is not on the list of 11 things to love about Cosco, and my story is the reason why.”

“I'll be darned. Customer satisfaction is one of the top reasons I like Costco. Thanks for clearing that up.”

“You must be a difficult person. I hate shopping in any store yet I find Costco unusually tolerable. Also they don't take credit cards.”

“Shop your local, family owned small businesses this holiday season. I own such a retail business. I start my hourly employees at $4 / hr above minimum wage with annual merit increases. They don't work holidays. They are loyal, dependable and trustworthy. You treat people well, they will treat you and your customers well, and the profits will come. It's that simple.”

OurSaySo on Nov 6, 2013 at 12:31:18

I'll also bet you don't have a lot of turnover and staff time wasted training new employees.”

“Yes, the contractor should fix the site.  But it is standard procedure in government contracting for the government to review and accept the work before cutting a check. HHS should have not accepted the original technical design.  Why did the government accept a shoddy product? -- because there isn't a rock star system architect on the government side that knows a shoddy design from good design.  This is the ugly truth about government IT projects and has been problem for decades.  ”

InspiredByTruth on Oct 18, 2013 at 15:05:18

“You keep trying to weasel your way into excusing the failure of the private sector to perform here but it keeps going back to the basics. The blame goes to the private sector corporation for absolutely failing to deliver. The ugly truth is this proves private sector corporations are not good at delivering public services.”

“That's nonsense.  I hire someone to build me a house.  The builder puts on a  thatch roof, and after I move in it rains and the roof leaks.  Who's to blame?  Me for accepting a leaky thatch roof or the builder for choosing that type of roof?  Both, right?  What I'm saying is that people in government don't know the difference, but they should in order accept the work delivered by the contractor.  And I'm not talking political appointees.  I'm talking civil servants.  This is not a partisan issue, and I'm definitely not a Republican.  All administrations led by both parties have wasted millions on poorly conceived IT projects.”

InspiredByTruth on Oct 18, 2013 at 14:10:09

“Your example proves what I'm saying. The builder would be 100% liable for the leaky roof, any damages as a result, and the cost to fix their work. The private sector corporation is to blame for this and it proves private sector corporations are ineffective at providing public services.”

“Private sector corporations building technology for public services is not the problem. The problem in the government is that there are lots of top chefs and paper pushing project managers, but no one who is skilled enough to call foul on a contractor run amok. There are no product managers in government like there are in tech companies that would've never allowed hc.gov to be architected in its current design.”

InspiredByTruth on Oct 18, 2013 at 12:59:16

“But the private sector corporation that made the site has these project managers, and yet they still ruined the rollout and failed to deliver. You apparently want to hire these same project managers and put them in the government so they can ruin even more public services. Since when did the Republican party get taken over by anarchists?”

3. Savings on monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs

4. Medicaid expansion

5. No more yearly limits on coverage

6. Expanded small business tax credit

“The Libertarian Party today is further left and extremist than the Democratic Party on a number of issues and to right of the Republications on others. I don't see today's moderate republications embracing some of the LP's liberal stances. Also, the Democratic Party is far more centrist, resembling the Republican party up until '80s.
