“I work in affordable senior housing. At least a couple times a month, I meet with folks who have ended up homeless. Their stories are amazing. One fellow told me about riding the rails and his adventures. The majority of these individuals have a fascinating story to tell, and it always gives me great joy when agree to move in to one of our apartments. The number of homeless vets is staggering. This is so wrong in so many ways.”

“I work in senior housing. A couple of days ago, I met with a VFW member who volunteers to help homeless veterans. Forget all the BS you hear about "Honoring our Heroes." It's lipservice. The truth is that thousands of veterans are homeless through no real choice of their own. They live in parks, under overpasses and in forest preserves. This is what this country does to those who risk life and limb to preserve the billionaires. Sickening and wrong.”

“Most homeless shelters often allow homeless people to use their address for such purposes.”

Aissatou Sunjata on May 7, 2014 at 10:40:14

“Yes, I have recently found out that this is possible in some places. Yet, imagine living in a place with only one homeless shelter? I now do. Also, doubt everyone for the 30 days they are allowed to be in the shelter, if lucky can use the address for establishment of residency. It is only for 30 days that the average homeless person not living somewhere else can live in the homeless shelter. The one where I reside, you must be there in line an hour or so before the shelter opens to even be considered. The problem is whether you even get in the homeless shelter. Also, the shelter where I live is not free.”

“People have become homeless because the greedy keep stealing more and more of what the middle class has. Unscrupulous banks promised to modify mortgage loans. Instead, they modified families right out of their homes. The banks would rather leave foreclosed homes sit empty and vandalized than to allow homeless people to occupy them. This is criminal.”

“Frankly, I do my best to avoid these and other multi-million dollar companies that prey on people. Wal-Mart is the worst. It's symbolic of what's happening in America today - cheap, rampant consumerism and the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs. I do my best to stay away from Wal-Mart. Sears, too. I worked temp for Sears corporate offices years ago. It was a nasty, poison atmosphere.”

“When you can direct me to a mom/pop store that is open 24/7 that doesn't charge me an arm and a leg for a hammer or a gallon of milk, then I'm all ears. Till then, I'm cruising over to Wal-mart, even though most of the time I don't like walking into the place, but I'm so thankful it exists.

I'm well old enough to remember how everything used to close at 5pm and nothing was open on Sunday. Yeah- people like to whine about Wal-mart, but I don't see them out there pooling their money and collateral resources together in order to secure a business loan to offer a better, more "friendly" single point shopping solution.

Until then, ease up on the Wal-mart "preying on people" bellyaching.

“For those of you applauding McDonald's, you DO realize that YOU'RE the ones who will pay for the SNAP program, help with utilities, Section 8 and other benefits to underpaid workers, right? These workers contribute toward the success of these corporations, and they deserve to make a living wage. Have you ever tried working at a fast-food place? It's hard work. It's safe to say that every restaurant workers does far more work than some CEO sitting on his padded duff and increasing the bottom line on the backs of workers. But, that's obviously okay with some of you, and you obviously don't mind your taxes supplementing their salaries. Brainwashed fools.”

“What we need is a booming economy, but for that we'd have to get rid of the incompentent in the WH. And all his buddies in Congress. Most of these places are barely making money, some are losing it. McDonalds just happens to be popular enough to do better, but a few years ago their stock was in the dumster. Take a look at the other ones.

“She is 27 years old with two kids, putting the compassion aside, no one told her to have a family she can't afford to provide for. Being that she still is young she qualifies for financial aid so she can go back to school and better her life. If she has a high school diploma she should look into getting a civil service job or join the military so she can earn more and receive better benefits to provide for her family. The majority of McDonalds are franchises, so this makes them small businesses. If she wants to work for a big company she should apply for Star Bucks which owns all their stores they don't franchise.”

“Stop hating the rich? Why? The success of their businesses are due, in part, to hard-working employees who are underpaid. They charge too much - even Wal-Mart is getting far too expensive. They outsource our jobs. WE THE TAXPAYERS have to supplement their employees' benefits. Whoever you are, you need a reality check. There will soon be revolution and some heads will roll. Rich heads.”

Big Pharma grants huge donations to university medical centers to gain a seat on the medical school curriculum board and have a say on medical school classes and continuing medical education. The schools get millions and millions to push drugs. Big Pharma also foots the bill for continuing medidcal education seminars to Hawaii, Europe, etc. The doctors are enthralled, and the rest of us are screwed.”
