“Oberyn wasn't a stand-in for god so your comparison is moot. There was nothing allegorical about this death - it was just plain brutal.”

“The overabundance of CGI in the prequels really soured the franchise for me, so it's refreshing to see animatronics make their way back into Star Wars. A very smart move by Abrams, because while CGI can wow, there's very often very little wonder about it. I'm looking forward to seeing real things kicking up real Tatooine dust again.”

“I knew it was coming, I knew how it would happen, I know what happens next, yet somehow it still goes down as one of the most horrific things I've ever seen on a fictional TV program. Heartbreaking and infuriating, to be honest. If Martin were sitting next to me at that final moment, I probably would have punched him in the face and yelled "stop offing the GOOD GUYS!!!!"”

“Because our "past" is still floating around in the atmosphere. It takes anywhere from 40 to 100 years for a molecule of CO2 to be processed through natural means. The bulk of current warming is OUR responsibility because that decades-old CO2 is still there doing what it does. That is why what other countries do or don't do is irrelevant; our task is to mitigate as much of the damage as possible and to stop making things worse.”

Inpatient on Jun 2, 2014 at 06:54:43

“And so we make efforts to address past sins - even though 100 years ago who could have even imagined anything called "global warming" - while the other 80% of the world's economy gets their turn to do what they ever they want? And then where will we be 40 to 100 years from now?”

“First of all, it's not a "claim", it's a fact - 97% of climate scientists attribute man-made emissions as the PRIMARY cause of global warming that is leading to climate change. Second, your mock survey appears not only to confuse weather with climate, it completely ignores the fact that we're not talking about "Anytown USA" where perception and feelings are factors, we're talking about mountains of peer-reviewed science. Third, those climate scientists who responded "Not Sure" in the actual survey comprise about 2.5% of the remaining 3%, with the last .5% being in the "No" category.”

“Julian Green is an exceptional young player and a standout in Bayern Munich's youth program. He'd walk into any MLS side as a starter if he went that route. And Wondo is a poacher...so what? If it's one thing we've lacked it's a player who can turn up suddenly and nick that all-important goal.”

Linus521 on May 20, 2014 at 20:12:11

“Several years ago, I read where a scientist said, each day Earth becomes more like Mars, meaning a lifeless planet covered in rocks. Don't they make concrete and asphalt from rocks?

A scientist wrote that the appearance of green trees and plants on the land's surface a vital evolutionary event as this permitted multi-cellular life to evolve and invade most continents, altered soils and changed climates around the globe. And, we're in the economy of removing and skinning this for cities, sprawl, parking lots and shopping malls.

Isn't Venus hot, hot, hot [ bad, bad connotation]? None of our fellow planets can support life, right? [I need to science up; my grandson wants to be an astronomer.]”

We're both squandering the incredibly high functioning brain evolution built for us and ensuring our place as a dead end. “I don't disagree with a single point you've so robustly made, yet it can't be denied that President Obama and his AG have utterly failed to seek anything other than pittance-level punitive fines of the banks. Rather than taking the kind of action Elizabeth Warren has been demanding for years, they've sought meaningless monetary "penalties" and done little to re-establish sensible and protective regulations or expand oversight that would curtain the next crisis (which now seems inevitable).”

Dad2three on May 19, 2014 at 23:58:08

“We rescue the banks to see them fail? No, unless another GOPer is put into the executive office, like Reagan ignoring the S&L regulator warnings that started 4 years before HIS crash, the US will be safe

There is great power in stopping the type of fraud we saw under Bush. Obama might not be perfect, but he 'believes in' Gov'y AND governance, unlike the GOP”

Larri Brady McKnight on May 19, 2014 at 23:22:27

“While I do agree that Holder should be going after banks and banksters more vigorously, this is different. Credit Suisse will not be able to take the money fined off of their taxes. They plead guilty. That does indicate a change in the way Holder did things this time. In the past, they could pay the fine and not admit wrongdoing. Not enough, I agree, but a change for the better. Sometimes a step forward is progress, no matter how much yardage is covered.”
