Texas Gay Marriage Ban Ruled Unconstitutional By Federal Judge

Texas Gay Marriage Ban Ruled Unconstitutional By Federal Judge

“Perhaps its time for some states to start thinking about separating and forming their own country. We obviously are not united on most issues; and will probably never be. We're becoming more polarized each year. I see separation as inevitable in the long future.”

Shane Cowart on Feb 27, 2014 at 17:12:01

“There's really no need for that. As long as everyone is treated equally, whether we agree or not, there's just no need for that.”

“I have no problems whatsoever with the dinosaur. The monopoly game is, in fact, ingenious because it teaches money and capitalistic skills at an early age....something that's not taught enough. And what's wrong with the real tooth fairies? Just because its pink or princess, doesn't mean its bad. I love how girls are frowned up on for playing with anything other than building blocks and sports toys. My daughter had some princess stuff, and my little pony and she's turned into a tomboy. I'd LOVE for her to wear a dress. At 11 she has a figure that most girls would love to have. If she stays slender and fit (which I know she will) she'll naturally have a model's build. Dresses were made for her. Instead its skinny jeans, vans, non matching socks and a t-shirt. She'd love to be more "ratty" but we won't let her leave the house unless it looks presentable. That's enough freedom for her.”

“Yeah, I have no idea why the dinosaur is on the list. It's not a robot, it's just a cool dinosaur that roars with armor you can remove. My son had the T-Rex.”

“Yes I do.  Guess what, many people can't pay their credit card bills and mortgages because either they spent too much or they didn't "prepare for a rainy day", or both.  Yes, I think we should default, crash and start over.  Then maybe we'll learn from our mistakes and get it right.  Be a country of smart savers and investors rather than frivolous spenders.”

“I wouldn't mind if we don't raise the debt ceiling for a few years. It serves the US right for overspending. We should cut federal budget by 5% every year for the few years until we (the government and us the people) learn to live within our means. Yes it will hurt in the short term but as a country, we'll get over it.”

Savage Saint Roger on Oct 3, 2013 at 17:51:31

“If they don't, they have to run on monies received daily and thanks to the GOP's wars, their facilitation of moving jobs over seas, and their refusal to tax, we don't have enough money coming in daily. If they don't raise it huge portions of the country will be begging in the streets. Who's gonna give then? The budget is being cut.
We've been on credit since Nixon removed the gold standard. Oil is what backs our money now as all oil is traded in dollars. the Saudis have over 3 trillion dollars invested in wall street, for example, according to NPR and contrary to popular thinking China is 3% of our debt. France is the country that owns the most of us and why not, they've been here since the 16th century and still in Canada. Just sayin'...”

“The U.S. truly is divided by ideology. I see this on a daily basis. I'm from a red state and most of my family is conservative, but not tea partiers. But I also watch Maddow and read Huffington post. I think that eventually, in time, the differences will be so great the country does become divided into two separate countries. Most people on HP can't stand conservatives or southerners for that matter and on the other side...the feeling is mutual. Why shouldn't those states secede from the Union? Both sides have to give up something in order to compromise but neither one is...and both feel they've given up way too much. So where does that lead us?”

FBueller on Oct 3, 2013 at 15:52:08

“I think we (America) has lost the ability to effectively (even a semblance) govern due to the polarized ideology - its time for a change. Even tree's shed a limb in a drought - to save the greater tree. It does make me ponder what the Red State congressmen would do if the current gulf hurricane makes land like Katrina or worse.....then is go'met ok??
I don't think as you put it "in time the differences will be so great" - I'd say "we're in that time". Thanks for your thoughtful comments. Oh, and while my parents were died-in-the-wool Republicans (Reaganites)....they like many are deceased now. I still get Mom's hate-Obama, half-truths mail from every GOP conservative organization - really amazing stuff to read. The people are not Christian....they simply can't be.”

“If the new republican party took over some people might actually have to work for a living. People, business and entities (education, gov't offices, etc) might actually be held accountable. I for one, would love to see the end of the entitlement mentality. No one is entitled to a high paying job, or free phones and internet, or free anything. They should have to work for it unless they are elderly or handicapped. If someone can't afford it, then don't buy it. That's what I would like to see if the new Republican Congress took over.”

Half "claim" that Obamacare will raise many people's rates 200% or the other half claim that the ACA will be great for all because people will have health care and those paying now will be paying a lot less. The bottom line is, NO ONE KNOWS. Only 5 -10 years will tell exactly how this Healthcare law pans out. I think the world has waayyy too many opinionated pundants.”

This is what frustrates me about political correctness. If I don't like something...the government forces me to. That's ridiculous. The gay couples civil rights were not violated. What are they going to do, force everyone to accept their sexual preference? Some people get all bent out of shape if they aren't liked and accepted 100% of the time. That's a part of growing up. You will not be accepted 100% of the time, by 100% of the people. But gay rights activists and minorities want exactly that.”

“Religious beliefs don't just belong in a Church they belong to the person and it encompasses their whole life. It's not something you just turn on and off. If that is the case then the person is not truly religious. Also, it was a private business and they should be allowed to serve who they wish to serve. Many NY upscale restaurants won't allow poor people without a dinner jacket...is that discrimination against the poor? Bottom line? Business should and do decide for themselves who to serve. Another example...fat people buying 2 seats on airplanes? Discrimination?”

NCMan on Sep 3, 2013 at 22:07:12

“businesses have to follow the law.  even a private business must follow the laws of public accommodation.  The public accommodation laws in Oregon protect people based on gender, race, religion, nationality and sexual orientation.  These laws don't protect people based on their income from being required to wear a dinner jacket.  these laws don't protect people based on their weight from having to buy two seats.  Churches, while conducting church business are exempt from these laws.  A person who holds religious beliefs is NOT EXEMPT from these laws while operating a business that is open to the public.  That's the difference between a church and a bakery.  I understand you don't like it and don't agree with it.  But, that's how the law works.  Period.”
