“It is so cute that the speaker was signing up for health care he doesn't need since he has a premier program in congress AND he is very wealthy and can afford health care out of his own pocket. But I do get the point of taking advantage of the web site flaw to denigrate the president and the program.”

“Grassley amendment. Congress critters are switching to the public exchanges.”

“A republican amendment (Grassley Amendment) mandates that all of Congress and their assistants join the exchanges Jan.1, 2014.”

“You might want to check out the Grassley Amendment before you post again.”
“Which demonstrates his ability to think what is best for the country and to meet his obligations. Above all to admit his change of thinking and why. Good for him.”

“What changed Reid's thinking was his party retaking control of the Senate and being a victim of the fillibuster, rather that the perpetrator of it.
Which, incidentally, makes him no different than any other member of Congress, Democrat or Republican. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Once elected, members of Congress from both parties cease being servants of the people and become servants of being re-elected. Twas always thus, and always twil be.”
“Gov. Walker is the son of a minister, so Scott is not accurate when he says he is not obsessed with the anti-abortion effort. He has a trail of notable work on the anti-women's health issues during his young career and during his term as governor.
He won the recall by 172,447 voters. I suspect these voters are people who listen to Rush daily and are angry that they can't get work or well paying jobs. They are the Christians who are anti-abortion and anti-gays. They are farmers and hunters who respect their guns and were told in the recall that the Milwaukee Mayor would take away their guns. They are people who feel angry that teachers, police and firefighters get good benefits and in their eyes that is not fair. They love private prisons and schools. They believed the Governor when he said he would bring 250,000 good jobs to Wisconsin and they are waiting and waiting.
About not finishing college, he is smart enough to memorize the talking points and have ALEC write the bills he pushes through. He understands who his donors are, Koch internationally and Hendricks locally, for example, and he dutifully follows the tea party playbook. I think he would have great difficulty in debates unless he had an ear plug telling him what to say. I actually don't think he will get re-elected but he will have a bright future of making money as a lobbyist. He could work for Ralph Reed.”
“You cannot raise enough money against corporations/ Wall Street/ and the super class elite…yes I heard of Soros and he is up against 5,999 with much more wealth IF he would back a progressive. Just can't happen in today's USA and the world. Warren can't succeed either. Until voters cannot be media manipulated, there cannot be a candidate that "makes change happen."”
“Is that enough training and connecting time to become a lobbyist? Perhaps he is a recipient for the farm subsidy or he had private wealth from family in the first place. It will be interesting to watch this play out.”
“Agreed.. He extended the Bush tax cuts through the end of 2012, offered spending cuts, appointed a Super Committee who gave us sequester to get the debt ceiling lifted in 2011. He permanently extended the Bush tax cuts for incomes up to $400,000 to avoid the fiscal cliff of 2012, and now offers the “chained CPI” and Medicare cuts in 2013. The public option in health care was bargained away with private meetings with Pharma and the Insurance industry BEFORE the battle for AHC with public option off the table.
The progressive side of the country has less power or money compared to the opposite side of the spectrum funded both by oligarchs like the Kochs and Wall street lobbyists. Those Americans in the middle are ambivalent, feel overpowered, or have wedge, social issues more important than the 'safety net'.
Simple solutions include what the IMF just stated this week...Tax the wealthy ( at pre-Reagan levels, my add), Yet the president and most of congress are millionaires and taxing themselves must just be too difficult.
Of course had Romney won the presidency Social Security, Medicare, SNAP, School loans, public universities would be gone already! Every public building and road would be sold to private funders and the country would look even more like a Tim Burton movie. We would be in another war or two while the planet continues to heat up under the use of fracked lands and oil spills.”
“Freedom of religion as long as it is Christian and the right kind of Christian makes up the thinking of so many Americans on the right. Though Obama is Christian these Americans protesting at a tea party activity are telling in their intolerance of anyone not Christian, the right kind.”

“It is impossible to believe inquisitors during the inquisition were Christians anymore than Tea Party Republicans are Christians today.”
“Judging from world comments at the IMF annual meeting it appears the elite of the gerrymandered districts could be hurt financially upon "default" and that could be a threat to the freshmen tea party reps and Sen. Cruz etc. as well. New faces including Governors in 2014 gives hope.”
“I can't help but think that the angry commenters today probably ate fruit or vegetables that were picked by those immigrants under working conditions the commentators would never do. Clueless.”

“These are criminals not immigrants,,, and if we kick them all back across the border our produce will still get picked. Clue that.”

“I don't watch the ball games they play in either. Nor do I hire them. That said, a lot of the produce I buy comes from Chile.
However, many of the construction workers in my neighborhood don't speak English and are said to be undocumented. Greedy contractors. There was a study done recently about housing and the flaws that show up in about 10 years time. I'd like to see a study of who the builders were. My relatives, LEGAL Mexicans included worked UNION construction jobs for years. Painters, gardeners, roofers, etc etc.”
“So who"owns" Boehner??? His future employer after he leaves office? When that 'owner' starts to lose money in the market perhaps s/he gives Boehner the OK for a clear CR. And why would Reid turn on his own party Miss. Rep Nunnelee? Would you? Oh that's right, it is only a RW talking point.”
“The Tea Party ought to be reported in the media as the Koch Party and perhaps their voters will better understand what they are doing to their fellow Americans and for their 'masters' instead. Fox is owned in part by a rich Saudi, Limbaugh is immensely rich. And these are the main sources of information for the Koch party voters. When the government is shut down and the government does not pay it debt, these Koch party voters will suffer the unintended consequences of their votes, all because they believed the lies spewed by their sources.”
“That is the RW tactic...get neighbor to hate neighbor and be grateful to the elite. Then they will feel like they are one with the elite. That is why union busting pols make exceptions for police unions. They need the police.”
