“Cuccinelli has to recuse himself from any oversight if there is a recount due to a conflict of interest. Since Cuccinelli refused to resign the office of Attorney General while running for the governor's office and still raises funds for Obenshain, he needs to be removed from any decision-making.”

“Actually, ole Kenny tried to criminalize miscarriages as if these events were somehow due to the mother's negligence. Cuccinelli's efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and birth control/education are indeed despicable. Women control their bodies, not some Catholic man who is free to practice his faith. But Cuccinelli is not free to foist these beliefs on all women.”

You may indeed represent your own gerrymandered old white people, but not all Americans. That you would have the cajones to show up at the WW2 Memorial, pretending to side with these honorable veterans is amazing, when your Teabag party blocked any meaninful legislation to help the veterans.. They should have kicked you, Palin and Lee out of that movement, taking that traitorous confederate flag with you. Since your father fought with Castro, why did he leave Cuba? Also I understand that you do not speak Spanish, so you certainly do not represent the Hispanic-Americans in Texas, do you?”

Mormon Leader Calls Gay Marriage 'Immoral': LDS Leader Dallin H. Oaks Tells Conference It is 'Contrary To God's Decrees'

Commented Oct 7, 2013 at 11:34:04 in Religion

“The Mormon Church spent millions of dollars in its quest to defeat the Proposition in California (as elsewhere) giving gays marriage rights. This man is entitled to his views as his Church is entitled to its freedom of beliefs. However, the Mormon Church (and all others) benefit from a tax exemption status that needs to change, an exemption that provides the millions of dollars used to foist their religious beliefs into our laws. All churches need to start paying their fair share of taxes, especially when they conveniently forget about the separation of church and state.”

sfcanative on Oct 7, 2013 at 16:22:22

“If they start paying taxes they can lay claim to a say in how the government is shaped. Better they are left off the tax rolls so they can be kept in the corner where they belong.”

“In many ways Utah is a de facto theocracy. What, in other states, are strictly secular matters, in Utah are matters of Mormon religious doctrine.”

Karl Leinfelder on Oct 7, 2013 at 11:55:17

“Hey Zoe: Stating the views and beliefs of one's church (Mormons) as related to dogmatic theology is a right recognized by the constitution of the United States. Doing so is no infringement on the concept of separation of church and state. Simply because they do not agree with your beliefs and philosophies will in no way threaten their rights to a tax-free status. They believe that same sex physical engagements are against the law of God. That's part of their religion and in no way can it be considered as homophobic.”

“Excuse me, but the youth and others who use social media are the reason citizens' identity are no longer protected. Whenever one uses a cell phone or a credit card, her identity is not protected. Texas is near bottom in having the most uninsured people, but we already pay for their care when they use the Emergency Room. What is it about the religious right that blinds them to the suffering of people who do need health care? Texas is business-friendly, meaning no restrictions or regulations to hamper the ever-increasing greed of companies, allowing a dangerous factory to be built in an existing neighborhood. If Congress and the Constitution guarantee the "will of the people" why has there been no action on more gun control that a huge majority of Americans want? Your question about ending this shutdown should be put to Ted Cruz.”

Immediately the Federal Government (the one these boys are so afraid of) could close down all military installations and other federal institutions there. By the way, Governor, Medicare and Medicaid coverage does not extend to foreign countries which is what Texas will be. Perhaps Mexico can reclaim what was once theirs. “It's almost as if these people have been trained to focus on the two hot topics (in their small minds)--impeachment and Benghazi. During the presidential election campaign, their shouts were about "keep your hands off my Medicare" and Second Amendment gun rights. These Town Halls have become the venue for these brainwashed folks to use the right-wing bullying tactics of rage and shouting. The Government (and especially President Obama) has not taken away their guns nor changed their socialized Medicare program. Just looking at most of the crowd you can see they've had more than their fair share of food consumption. Why are they so angry and, more importantly, why isn't that anger directed toward their very own obstructionists in Congress? They're too dumb to realize these tactics and their beliefs ARE the problem, turning off most voters.”

It's almost as if the Teabagger/Republicans want a race riot to happen so that they can accuse President Obama for this too. My husband, during his career in the Foreign Service, disagreed on many issues of elected presidents, such as Reagan and Bush. Well, Mr. Cantnor, let's start by closing down many of the military facilities in the great Commonwealth of Virginia. “If, as Coburn alleges, the government has plenty of money available to fund FEMA in this Oklahoma catastrophe, why even bring up the subject of offsets to other government programs? Is Coburn afraid that the offsets in funding will come from the military installations in Oklahoma, or was he hoping that other states' programs would be decreased? I have often thought this man's name should be Dr. Mengele, due to his hostile responses to his own constitutents. What is it about his oath as a doctor that makes him devalue helping people who need it, instead of worrying about a deficit and the almighty dollar. We are still a strong country, but it is folks like this Coburn and Inhofe who would destroy the very government programs designed for just such catastrophes.”

“When the earthquake struck in Eric Cantor's district, Cantor wanted offset cuts in other areas before FEMA sent funds to Louisa, Virginia. Cantor backed off his request so fast that it made his own dumb head spin when the suggested offset cuts would have been to some of the huge military facilities in Virginia. Hypocrisy and greed are what these Republican/TP's Senators and Representative share. This withholding federal help before offsets are made demonstrates the fatal flaw of States' Rights of pitting one state against another. When a state or region needs help in an emergency situation, all Americans help and thus you do need FEMA.”
